Local Births -- Ireland

I see other people doing this sort of thing so I will. I’ll mark my favourites. Leave your opinions

Edit: I’m under accusation for posting these as they aren’t all recent so I’m now posting a disclaimer. These are not all recent. They are also not all in Dublin. I mean local in the country sense (as there are very little birth announcements in the local paper) and was posting them as a discord for talking about the names used recently (ie the last several years) in my country and how they’re differing from other births of the same in various countries. I hope this gets me out from under fire as I was unaware I could be misconstrued as troll for posting birth announcements that weren’t from the last month?
I’m also changing the way I spelled favorite. I’m an American born man living in Ireland and though I try to always spell things the way it’s preferred over here, I did learn spelling in America and sometimes don’t catch myself. I will change it to the preferred European spelling as this also seems to have people thinking I’m a troll.

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] names! [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is particularly handsome.

Are you an American living in Ireland?

These ‘birth’ announcements are all over the show and some don’t exist, if you claim they were published in Irish newspapers. Some examples:

  1. Oran Fergus John was born in 2008.

  2. Elaine was a ‘birthday anniversary’ announcement. She was born in 1979!

  3. Dorothy’s surname is Aylward, so I’d take that down. Born in 2011.

http://www.iannounce.co.uk/ ((go to the Republic of Ireland home page first)) << You can check them all here. This website stores all of the Irish newspapers’ printed announcements. It’s updated daily.

Then there’s this website:

Birth Notices in Northern Ireland - belfasttelegraph.co.uk/classifieds << This lists all the names that can’t be found on the site above. It’s the Belfast Telegraph (nowhere near Dublin) and features names of children with relatives in Belfast all across the world. Examples:

Juniper Leigh - Ontario
Hudson Robert William - New York

Thanks for the links renrose! I’m an American living in Belfast and wouldn’t have known where to look for that kind of info. Also, you have my name as one of your fave combos and I rarely come across anyone who even recognises the name. (It’s [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f]'s second name!)

Well it was an accusation against the OP more than an assistance but thanks for the thanks nonetheless!

Lol, I was about to reply that I didn’t know that the Belfast Telegraph did birth announcements as I’d never seen them, then I realised that there had only been one this entire year.

I am an American living in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] and I don’t believe I’ve ever claimed otherwise. I’ve been here for a good while, but yes, I am of Irish heritage, born in America, moved to Ireland. That’s the site I looked at for these. I didn’t check specifically when they were born but was more interested in the names being used in the country I’m currently living in. I never claimed they were recent nor did I claim they were specifically in [name_m]Dublin[/name_m], just [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]. I would have said [name_m]Dublin[/name_m] if I intended them to be in that city alone.

Thank you for pointing out that that was her surname I didn’t notice that. I’ll remove it immediately. I’ll remove the other 2 at the bottom of your post as I see they weren’t in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] but on the site.

I’m sorry these things bother you and make you feel the need to accuse me of something? Would you prefer I took them down as they aren’t recent? I didn’t know they had to be recent to be talked about. If that’s the case I’ll do so.

I’ll go up there and add a disclaimer if that will stop people from accusing me of being a troll. I don’t find it necessary as I’ve done nothing offensive or troll like but if it will make people feel better.

[name_m]Ethan[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] too, [name_m]Kendrick[/name_m] is his surname. And a few others of the Belfast ones weren’t born in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] either, I only posted those two as examples. [name_m]Just[/name_m] fact check first next time so it doesn’t look suspicious

I’m sorry, I just didn’t think it was suspicious to post births of any sort. I’ll know better next time or not post any more.

All these babies have beautiful names (and they are spelled correctly:)) much better than the American birth announcements I have seen.

Again, for reference, some of them are Canadian, American, Australian etc

I think [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]Conor[/name_m] [name_m]Michael[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Finlay[/name_u] [name_m]Colin[/name_m], [name_m]Adam[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] are lovely.

I don’t understand why it really matters if he’s a troll. He’s sharing name combo’s and they’re there for us to look at and talk about them. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if they weren’t real or were taken from a few years, and if he say’s he’s European when he’s not, who cares? Its not hurting anyone. This is a name site, and he’s sharing names, and that’s what we’re supposed to do.

He was a troll and he’s since been deleted by the admin team. The problem is that he’s lying to us, not so much with this thread but in others he’s inventing a family and making us care about him. Then we waste our time selecting names for a fictional child without knowing that said child is fictional when we could be helping someone with a genuine request.
