Local Naming Trends

I started thinking about the topic of local naming trends recently when I was researching the popularity of one of my top name picks - [name]Eliza[/name]. Nationally, the name ranks at #328 in 2008, but in [name]Utah[/name] the name ranks much higher - #55, which makes me a bit nervous about using it. I find regional naming trends really interesting, and it makes me curious why [name]Eliza[/name] ranks so much higher in [name]Utah[/name] than it does everywhere else.

So a for all you nameberries: have you noticed any name trends like this in your state? A name that isn’t in the top 100 nationally, but super-popular where you live?

We were considering [name]William[/name], nn [name]Liam[/name], for our son. I knew it was a Top 10 name (#8 nationally) but when we realized it was #1 in [name]Georgia[/name] we took it off the list. The only other name (that I like) that I’ve noticed being more popular here is [name]Anna[/name]. It’s #26 nationally but #20 here. Of course [name]Georgia[/name] also has the dubious honor of having more Makaylas and Aidans, but luckily those aren’t on my list
