Am I setting a boy up for a life of failure if I name him [name_m]Logan[/name_m] with a -sen ending last name? I know I’m being dramatic, but I don’t want to pick something the feels awkward or clunky. We’ve loved the name a long time and it is a family name. [name_f]My[/name_f] brother and sister in-law are expecting and naming their baby [name_m]Carson[/name_m], which feels way more matchy matchy than [name_m]Logan[/name_m] -sen, but I don’t know [name_f][/name_f] I don’t want the name to feel like a comic book character. [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Or[/name_m] does it just have to stay as a middle name? Thanks!
To me it makes a big difference if the last name has two or three syllables. [name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_m]Olsen[/name_m], for example, feels more sing-songy than [name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_m]Andersen[/name_m] does. I think the latter sounds just fine.
Unfortunately it’s the first one
Not seeing a problem here! I think it’s got to be common that these ending sounds exist in people’s first and last names and if I imagine [name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_m]Jensen[/name_m] or [name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_m]Madsen[/name_m] I don’t even think it sounds “bad” let alone setting a person up for failure
I think @EdgeoftheMeadow is right. In my example (which came to mind because it’s my own last name lol) there’s a repeating O sound, whereas these other examples sound much better and I wouldn’t think twice about hearing them in real life.
I like it should sound fine. So long as the other sounds aren’t similar?
[name_f][/name_f]So… [name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_m]Jensen[/name_m] or [name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_m]Dawsen[/name_m] sound just fine to me, but [name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_m]Larsen[/name_m] or [name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_m]Rosen[/name_m] might be a bit much
I honestly really don’t see what the issue with it is! Seems perfectly fine.
Yeah so does ours, it’s [name_m]Olsen[/name_m].
I agree with some of the others, the actual surname will greatly decide how usable it is. [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_m]Jensen[/name_m] is fine for me, [name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_m]Olsen[/name_m] is too, although it doesn’t sound as nice? [name_f][/name_f] Any option I can think of is ok but some definitely sound better than others!
Well, hey there, fellow [name_m]Olsen[/name_m]! I should also caveat that even with the O and the N sound repeating, it doesn’t rhyme, and that is the only hard red line for me. [name_f][/name_f] Many people have firsts and lasts with repeating sounds and no one notices or comments. [name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_m]Olsen[/name_m] is a perfectly good name!
Haha! Hello! Thanks for sharing your outlook and your name [name_f][/name_f] I’ve given up a lot of names as many don’t work i.e [name_m]Cole[/name_m], [name_m]Samson[/name_m] etc. I had sworn of [name_m]Logan[/name_m] as well for the same reason, but then we’ve been rewatching [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] [name_m]Mars[/name_m] and it reminded me of how much I loved it and for so long. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband does as well. Added points being a family name on my maternal side.
I think [name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_m]Olsen[/name_m] sounds perfectly fine!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Logan[/name_m] Togan would be weird.
[name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_m]Olsen[/name_m] is not my favorite, with the matching 2 syllables and N endings, but it’s a perfectly fine name. I know so many people with names like this (or more so, with matching -son endings) and it seems to be a nonissue.
