I was sitting on the name [name_f]Lola[/name_f] for a few days and finally asked my husband what he thought. He actually likes it (shockingly!). The middle is still up for grabs though, he says he likes [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] while I like [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], among many others…
I think [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] sounds a little incomplete and too girly, but it does flow nicely…
Hmmm, we will see.
Sorry for all the talk! I do have a question I promise…
I can see a beautiful spunky little girl named [name_f]Lola[/name_f] in kindergarten, as an 8th grader and even see a woman in her late 20s/early 30s named [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. But that’s kinda where it ends for me…
What about all the berries out there? Can you see [name_f]Lola[/name_f]'s of any age? [name_m]How[/name_m] would a little [name_f]Lola[/name_f] age throughout the lifespan?
[name_m]Just[/name_m] curious what the thoughts are out there before I more mentally commit to this name.
Thanks for reading!!
P.S. I also am aware of the copa cabana connection etc etc, but I’m over that. I like the punchy, girly qualities of the name and that is more important than a song!!
I think it’s a lovely nickname but don’t see it aging well on someone my age (40). I say name her [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] and use [name_f]Lola[/name_f] as a nickname.
I have an aunt [name_f]Lola[/name_f] and she’s always hated her name. Part of the reason she hates it is because it fits a particular type of girl. My aunt’s a tomboy and [name_f]Lola[/name_f] doesn’t work for her. It works on spunky, girly types but not on other types of girls really. She also hates that it’s not versatile and that she felt like she was always a sexy 16 year old. She didn’t feel like it worked once she got into the work force and was trying to be mature and at 70, she hates it even more. She’s gone by her middle name since she had a choice.
I love it as a nickname, but I agree with my aunt on the rest. It’s spunky and fun and sort of sexy, but it isn’t a name for all types that matures. If you want full name suggestions, I could give you those, but I only like it as a nickname.
My thinking is that you can give your daughter a full/“proper” name and nickname her [name_f]Lola[/name_f] then let her decide when/if to switch over to the more formal name. I honestly can’t see [name_f]Lola[/name_f] aging well… [name_f]Lola[/name_f] just doesn’t seem like it would work for someone after 30. And I agree with pp that it seems to fit “a particular type of girl.” It’s also, perhaps, not the kind of name that I would take seriously as a potential employer or admissions person (all things being equal, if you needed to hire an assistant professor or a lawyer or a tax accountant, would you hire [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Lola[/name_f]?)
I suppose that’s why I favor more traditional full names with the option of shortening.
As much as I adore [name_f]Lola[/name_f], I do think it would be more practical as a nickname… Although, if i did meet at 38 year old [name_f]Lola[/name_f] I would be pleasantly surprised
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lola[/name_f] would be adorable!
I think it would age better than a lot of currently popular girl’s names, actually. [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is adorable, but with a short, sweet FN; a short, oversweet MN is too cutesy. [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is pretty, and the [name_f]Claire[/name_f] works well at balancing the sweetness. Other middles that may work:
I agree with most of the others…I have a hard time envisioning someone older with that name and I know quite a few dogs with that name. Also [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] seems to be a little too much…maybe too girly? idk. I prefer [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
I can see [name_f]Lola[/name_f] aging. I had a lady across the street from me when I was a kid named [name_f]Lola[/name_f] and I think it wears nicely on girls/women of all ages.
I don’t think [name_f]Lola[/name_f] would age too badly. I think it would be worst in the teenage years, with teasing. But, I think how bad that might be depends on the girl and her relationship with her peers, so it isn’t really a reason not to use a name that you absolutely love. It would be safest to go with another FN like [name_f]Laura[/name_f] or [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] (loved that suggestion!), but there is nothing wrong with [name_f]Lola[/name_f] by itself.
But please don’t use [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. It downgrades the name into something cutesy and insubstantial, for me.
