I can only see it as the name of the biggest city in my country. I can’t view it as cheap; it’s the financial capital of [name]England[/name] as well as the actual capital…
Meh. I don’t know, I don’t really see it as cheap. I don’t really see it as classy–like [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Arabella[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], etc.–but I don’t really see it as cheap, either. I think it’s nice. I like the nns [name]Elle[/name] and [name]Lola[/name] for a girl. I honestly like it better for a boy, though. This past summer I met a guy named [name]London[/name] and I thought that was seriously so cool!
Personally, I think it is one of the best place names. My kids are older and watch a lot of Disney [name]Channel[/name] shows. There is a snooty, rich girl on the Suite Life series of shows named [name]London[/name]. It’s kind of a charicature name for me. I also think it’s comparable in feel to [name]Paris[/name], which [name]Paris[/name] [name]Hilton[/name] definitely cheapened for me.
I think it’s perfectly fine. I don’t see it as cheap at all. [name]Paris[/name] itself isn’t a cheap name either. It just suffers from its attachment to [name]Paris[/name] [name]Hilton[/name].
I don’t really care for place names, but I would not think [name]London[/name] as a tacky or cheap name. I think [name]Paris[/name] only suffers from such associations due to one Ms. [name]Paris[/name] [name]Hilton[/name]. I think [name]Elle[/name] is a cute nickname for [name]London[/name].
I don’t think of it as a very classy name. [name]London[/name] was used on a spoiled, rich, hotel heiress character on a Disney [name]Channel[/name] show, an obvious replacement for [name]Paris[/name]. The only place names that I think really work well for girls are ones that are either so obscure people don’t know they’re places (Iluma, [name]Leonia[/name]) or were names before they were places ([name]Georgia[/name], [name]Geneva[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Virginia[/name].)
I love the name [name]London[/name] and I have considered it several times. I would use it if it better with my other favorites, but [name]Clara[/name] and [name]London[/name] just don’t work. I think it works great with a lot of your favorites. I definitely don’t think trashy, I think more modern and chic like I would with a name like [name]Aria[/name].
Thank you for all the responses so far. Cheap was probably definitely the wrong descriptor, but I kept drawing blanks. To me [name]London[/name] is chic, classy with a modern edge. However, there’s the [name]London[/name] Tipton aka [name]Paris[/name] [name]Hilton[/name] connection. [name]Le[/name] sigh. I’m still mulling it over, I definitely still like it.
I do think it’s a wee bit [name]Paris[/name] [name]Hilton[/name]. There was someone here a while back who was endlessly deliberating over [name]Catherine[/name] [name]London[/name]. I wonder what she ended up naming her kid. Anyway, she was related to [name]Jack[/name] [name]London[/name], so I was all for using the name [name]London[/name]. Otherwise, I’m not wild about it. Much prefer [name]Linden[/name] for a boy or girl. [name]Langston[/name] could be amazing for a boy (as in [name]Langston[/name] [name]Hughes[/name].)
I love it and I’m surprised by the responses. The last time I read a post about [name]London[/name] it was so negative.
It’s not at all cheap but I wouldn’t call it “classy”. That’s not a bad thing because I don’t consider any of my favorites to be “classy”. It has a beautiful sound and sleek feel. I don’t consider [name]Paris[/name] cheap either because [name]Paris[/name] [name]Hilton[/name] is not the first or only [name]Paris[/name] I’ve ever heard of.
Clunky, trendy, and, yep, pretty cheap. I wouldn’t class this with [name]Paris[/name], which is actually a legitimate name with a great deal of history and several literary connections. [name]London[/name] is more on the level of [name]Brooklyn[/name].
Honestly, I don’t think it sounds very classy. It’s one of those names that sounds as if it’s trying really hard to be classy, but failing.
Additionally, as someone who lived in [name]London[/name] for 5 years, I think it would suck to be named [name]London[/name] if you ever wanted to actually go there. You’d just feel silly.
I don’t think it’s cheap, but it’s not a name suitable for a person. It’s my hometown, and I love the city and find it beautiful, charming and lovely, but I don’t like names of cities and countries for people, there are simply too many associations (the only exceptions are cities that have taken their names from real names). Besides, I don’t really think [name]London[/name] is that nice a word anyway. Londinium? And I like [name]Emma[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Langston[/name] for a boy…
I think [name]London[/name] is ok, although not my cup of tea. I wouldn’t call it classy, and at one time it might have been chic, but I feel like it lost that years ago when it became a little trendy (along with other place names like [name]Brooklyn[/name], [name]Paris[/name], [name]Kingston[/name] and etc). I wouldn’t describe it as cheap either though.
I think place names can be appealing because they might sound exotic or they might carry a certain stereotype. Maybe they bring up certain imagery in our minds. At least until you live in that place or near it, then it might lose its appeal. I couldn’t imagine anybody naming their child Toronto or Ottawa! I would think it is ridiculous.
[name]London[/name] is a name that screams “dated” and “trying too hard” to me. And that definitely doesn’t seem like where you’re coming from, so I apologize. I don’t know where you live, but I have met several little [name]London[/name]'s where I’m at. They are often spelled wrong, “[name]Londyn[/name]” and “[name]Lundon[/name]” for real life examples. And generally, the families I’ve worked with that choose the name [name]London[/name] (or any spelling variant,) have not been the classiest, (to put it nicely.)
That is my genuine reaction to [name]London[/name], and I’m very sorry it is that way. I can see where you’re coming from - as a nice, adventurous sounding place name. But my real life experiences with it leave a sour taste in my mouth. Very akin to [name]Destiny[/name], [name]Krystal[/name], or [name]McKenzie[/name].
If you really love [name]London[/name] what about using it for a middle name? I think middle names can be a bit more out there, funky, trendy. [name]IMO[/name].
