Long lastname= short name?

We are giving up! hahah our girl will be named [name_u]Baby[/name_u]

I am french-spanish and H family is from Poland, hence picking a name that works for English but that wont be too difficult for our families has been as difficult as it sounds.

  • I liked the name [name_u]Simone[/name_u] since the beginning of my pregnancy but people keeps telling me that because we have a very long polish last name we will have to pick a short name. What do you think?

I like [name_u]Simone[/name_u] [name_f]Oceana[/name_f] and our second favorite is [name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Amandine[/name_f]

We would love new ideas and suggestions and your thought about long name- long last name

Big thanks!

[name_u]Simone[/name_u] [name_f]Oceana[/name_f] is lovely and my favourite of the two on your list. I’m sure either [name_u]Simone[/name_u] or [name_f]Frida[/name_f] would sound fine with your long last name. I would probably stay with one or two syllables and I find three syllable first names too long anyway, as they tend to get shortened.

I wouldn’t call [name_u]Simone[/name_u] a long name, it’s only 2 syllables, I think it’ll be fine

I like [name_u]Simone[/name_u] [name_f]Oceana[/name_f]. Pretty!

I love [name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Amandine[/name_f]! Beautiful!

Both [name_f]Frida[/name_f] and [name_u]Simone[/name_u] are short names imo - as pp said, it’s more the syllable count that matters rather than the number of letters if you’re worried about a name being too much of a mouthful. That said, I think a long first name can work with a long surname, it’s just a matter of finding the right name with the right flow. My surname is also three syllables long and one of my two favourites for my next girl is [name_f]Helena[/name_f], which I think works really well.

It sounds to me like [name_u]Simone[/name_u] is THE name since you’ve loved it from the beginning, and even though I personally prefer [name_f]Frida[/name_f], there’s been a lot of love for [name_u]Simone[/name_u] from the pps so I say go for it!

I love both [name_u]Simone[/name_u] and [name_f]Frida[/name_f] — names I couldn’t use for various reasons, but I’m so glad you’re considering them. I grew up with a long, difficult-to-spell last name, and my siblings and I all have very short names (at four letters and two syllables, mine is the longest). Sometimes this was appreciated, like when you have to write your name in a very small space. But really it never mattered too much. Both your choices would be wonderful!

Thanks so much everybody we are so thrilled to hear the supportive comments. We haven’t taken the final decision yet but we said by next week we should know. And I will certainly share

I don’t think [name_u]Simone[/name_u] is a long name. It’s only 2 syllables. If it’s what you like, go for it.

I MUCH prefer [name_u]Simone[/name_u] to [name_f]Frida[/name_f] but as pps said…[name_u]Simone[/name_u] is not a long name…six letters but only two syllables. I have a three letter name…still two syllables. I think [name_u]Simone[/name_u] [name_f]Oceana[/name_f] is very pretty.

I love your name choices and congratulations on your baby!
First of all - it’s not like you’re choosing super long first names. They are two syllables. That is perfectly fine with a long last name! Second - many people with long last names have long first names. The rule is to try to avoid the first and last names having the same number of syllables.
