Me and DH both love the name [name_u]Blair[/name_u] for our daughter (2 months until we meet her!!) but want a longer name to put on the birth certificate. We’ve looked everywhere and so far have only found names like ‘[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]’ which we’re not that fond of
I agree with @wilkie8709. If you love [name_u]Blair[/name_u], then that’s the name you should use! I honestly don’t think you’re going to find a longer name that [name_u]Blair[/name_u] stems from naturally. It’s not really meant to be a short form of anything; it’s a name in its own right – and a very sweet one at that.
Came back to suggest a different spelling you might prefer. What would you think of [name_u]Blaire[/name_u]? The ‘e’ on the end has a bit of a lengthening effect and makes it feel perhaps a bit more complete.
There isn’t a true long form of [name_u]Blair[/name_u]/[name_u]Blaire[/name_u]. I would just use it as it is instead of forcing it as a nickname for another unrelated name you may not love.
I think [name_u]Blair[/name_u] stands alone well but perhaps [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] or something like [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] could work
I agree with the other posters. To me [name_u]Blair[/name_u] is a name on its own, not a nickname. If you really want to use a longer name, then Blairine and Blerina are the only names I can think of that would give “[name_u]Blair[/name_u]” as an obvious nickname.
as much as I really love the short version of the name, my fear is that it will look very out of place in our family!
Her older siblings are named [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], so I’m worried that [name_u]Blair[/name_u] by itself will look so odd
We might maybe use it as a middle name and then just call her that
If you are worried, I think using a long first and calling her by her middle name is a viable option. [name_u]Blair[/name_u] works beautifully in the middle spot. A similar, shorter name that seems to fit the sibset well is [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], if you like that. The nickname route isn’t my favorite, but some possible ways to get there.
I would have said used it on its own, but then I saw your other kids names and it [name_u]Blair[/name_u] seems a bit mismatched to them. Not a bad thing, but if it bothers you then how about
*Use it as a middle and call her by that.
Some full names that I can think ( though [name_u]Blair[/name_u] is a very stretchy nn for them)
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Blanca[/name_f] + a r middle name ([name_f]Blanca[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Berenice[/name_f] + a middle name that contains L and r ([name_f]Berenice[/name_f] [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]?)
Personally, I would still stay with [name_u]Blair[/name_u] as her first name as I feel that it is often inconvenient to go by your middle name. But if it bothers you, I think it is better to place [name_u]Blair[/name_u] in the middle spot rather than choosing a somewhat unrelated name and using [name_u]Blair[/name_u] as a nickname. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you only use the full names of her siblings, or sometimes nicknames as that can be considered as well? I think that, while it’s nice to name our children names that flow with each other, it is less important than choosing the name you love the most for this baby.
Well, yes, [name_u]Blair[/name_u] might not fit in well with [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. I would then recommend using it as a middle name with a longer, more fitting first name and just calling her by her middle name instead.
I would just use [name_u]Blair[/name_u] on her own I prefer spelling [name_u]Blaire[/name_u] though I think it looks more complete if that makes any sense.
What I would do is use a longer feminine middle name some suggestions:
[name_u]Blaire[/name_u] [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f]
[name_u]Blaire[/name_u] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_u]Blaire[/name_u] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_u]Blaire[/name_u] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_u]Blaire[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_u]Blaire[/name_u] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
[name_u]Blaire[/name_u] [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped honestly [name_u]Blaire[/name_u] is a great name but my sister’s favourite so I cannot use it she’d kill me!
Good luck x
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] (shortened time [name_u]Blair[/name_u])
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u] (goes by [name_u]Blair[/name_u])
The only two I can think of are [name_f]Bellerose[/name_f] and [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] (the latter probably not usable though, which is a shame as it’s gorgeous!)
I really like [name_u]Blair[/name_u] and I think using the name you truly love should always trump sibling cohesion. [name_f]Remember[/name_f] that for most of their lives, they won’t be introduced as a set.
I do also like the suggestion of [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] (or another long traditional B name) + [name_f]Claire[/name_f] in the middle spot, with [name_u]Blair[/name_u] as a nickname.
What about a double-barrel name?
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]-[name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]-[name_f]Cecile[/name_f]
[name_f]Bella[/name_f]-[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]-[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]-[name_f]Florence[/name_f] (love this!)
