Looking for a quirky yet classic boys name... Help!

[name]Hi[/name], and thanks in advance for your help. I´m 4 months pregnant with my second which the doctor said is most likely a boy and I´m having a lot of trouble with a name for him. My daughter [name]Eleanor[/name] was very easy to name and if this baby were a girl she´d either be [name]Alice[/name], [name]Maude[/name], or [name]June[/name]… whichever she looked most like at birth I guess. Well for boys I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Henry[/name] which goes great with [name]Eleanor[/name] BUT its getting really popular and I think it will only become more popular in the next few years which is the only thing stopping me from using it. The other name I like is [name]Oscar[/name] but I don´t love it. I live in a spanish speaking country so thats something to consider as well.

Names I´m thinking of:

[name]Harold[/name] - love it and its nicknames but my husband HATES it

[name]Julian[/name] - great but a little popular and it would be pronounced hoolian…

[name]Truman[/name] - Great name but I don´t know if I´m bold enough to use it

[name]Desmond[/name] - same as [name]Truman[/name]

[name]Felix[/name] - My husband doesn´t hate it but he doesn´t like it much either

[name]Ewan[/name] - My husband likes [name]Owen[/name] but its really popular and so I thought this is a great alternative

[name]Graham[/name] - I like it but don´t love it and my husband is on the fence as well

[name]Arthur[/name] - husband doesn´t like it much but i really do!

[name]August[/name] - same as arthur

I´d also like to say that i like [name]Bruno[/name] and [name]Roscoe[/name] but we´re definitely not cool enough for these names and I fear my son won´t be either lol!

Okay help me out! Any suggestions? Thoughts on names i´ve mentioned… My husband is a pain in the ass and only vetoes names while coming up with nothing haha! I thought I had it with [name]Harold[/name] but he truly detests the name.

I loooooove [name]Julian[/name] and [name]August[/name]. The others are great as well.

Suggestions:

  • [name]Winston[/name]
  • [name]Edmund[/name]
  • [name]Vincent[/name]
  • [name]Lewis[/name]
  • [name]Oscar[/name]
  • [name]Jasper[/name]
  • [name]Elias[/name]
  • [name]Frederick[/name]

[name]Frederick[/name] - vetoed
[name]Oscar[/name] - high on the list
[name]Vincent[/name] - vetoed
[name]Lewis[/name] - vetoed
[name]Edmund[/name]/[name]Edward[/name]/[name]Edwin[/name] - vetoed lol

see what i´m working with here haha!

I like [name]Henry[/name] (and if you love it who cares how popular it is, it’s a great name!), [name]Oscar[/name], [name]Ewan[/name], [name]Felix[/name], [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]August[/name] but am not so keen on the others. [name]Julian[/name] - yuck, I never understand the attraction…too girly in my mind. [name]Bruno[/name] is great, I know a little [name]Bruno[/name] who is so cute and his parents aren’t that cool either. What about [name]Leo[/name]? [name]Sebastian[/name]? [name]Harry[/name]? [name]Jake[/name]?

[name]Leo[/name] is a fantastic name that we both love but [name]Eleanor[/name] translates to leonor in Spanish and many people here call her [name]Leo[/name] pronounced lay-oh. So we’d have two leos! [name]Harry[/name] is a nickname for [name]Henry[/name] so that’s. 2 for 1 yay because it’s such a cute name and [name]Jake[/name] is too popular but we both love it, same goes for jack

What about [name]Milo[/name]?

Or…

[name]Tobias[/name]
[name]Maxwell[/name]
[name]Dexter[/name]
[name]Malcolm[/name]
[name]Phineas[/name]
[name]Barnaby[/name]
[name]Clement[/name]
[name]Benedict[/name]
[name]Crispin[/name]
[name]Willoughby[/name]
[name]Peregrine[/name]
[name]Caspar[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name]

I love [name]Henry[/name]! I have a son named [name]August[/name] and we call him Auggie. I think [name]August[/name] [name]Henry[/name] is lovely. I also am becoming a big fan of [name]Hugo[/name].

[name]Albert[/name] comes to mind.

Sticking with the names you considered, do you think your husband will like [name]Harry[/name]…I don’t like the others you chose. Looks like you may have to settle with [name]Owen[/name]. I had a little [name]Bruno[/name] born just a month ago, and I am not cool by any stretch and not even of hispanic origin. but it works if the boy has brown hair.

Basically all of your names have been on our list at one point or another. My name style is “quirky yet classic” too. So I’m going to throw out some other boy names that have made it to our list. Sorry if I’m repeating any. Our husbands sound similar too! Mine usually just vetos everything - or he is in a good mood and he says “yes” to everything (then a few days later says no!).

and BTW, I was really into [name]Harold[/name] at one point! We liked the nn [name]Harry[/name], but [name]Harrison[/name] didn’t fit with our last name that well.

[name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Leland[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Chester[/name]
[name]George[/name]
[name]Vaughn[/name]
[name]Wesley[/name] / [name]Westley[/name]
[name]Bernard[/name]
[name]Neil[/name]
[name]Dexter[/name]
[name]Reed[/name] / [name]Reid[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Heath[/name]
[name]Maxwell[/name]
[name]Russell[/name]
[name]Davis[/name]
[name]Beau[/name] / Beuregard
[name]Xavier[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name]
[name]Garrett[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Otis[/name]
[name]Victor[/name]

[name]How[/name] about:
[name]Adrian[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Alistair[/name]
[name]Linden[/name]
[name]Graeme[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]

From your list, I [name]LOVE[/name]:
[name]Arthur[/name], [name]August[/name] and [name]Desmond[/name]

Good luck deciding - your daughter’s name is gorgeous btw!

I love so many names on your list! I wish you’d reconsider [name]Bruno[/name] and [name]Roscoe[/name], because those are some seriously awesome names! Some great suggestions in this thread - one that I haven’t seen is [name]Cecil[/name], which I think could fit your theme.

Crunchy mama - we do indeed have he same style! Engue - I believe bruno is german for brown but I can’t be positive, it is very popular in south American countries though my my little ones just happen to be half Colombian! [name]Owen[/name] for me is just way too popular, especially considering we live in a part of Spain that has connections with [name]Ireland[/name] and literally 60% of the Irish males I know here are [name]Owen[/name]. However they are eoin or another Irish spelling.

Anyway I think I’ve found my baby’s name…

Oh my I didn’t see the newer posts:

I actually really like 90% of your suggestions but most have been mentioned and vetoed for some reason or another, mostly by my husband! It breaks my heart that I can’t use [name]Theodore[/name] but [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name]! Next up [name]Roosevelt[/name] lol b

So I talked to my husband about the name [name]Truman[/name] and he actually likes it. There are so many great men with this name and it fits into our quirky yet classic category! What do you all think? If you don’t like it please tell me why because I like to see thugs from all sides!

So after 3 months of arguing and vetoing my husband and I found a name that we both like. Similar to our daughters ([name]Eleanor[/name]) name it has really positive namesakes attached and is classic yet a bit offbeat

The only thing that worries me is: does it sound like a virtue name??

I really don’t want a name that could be considered anything close to the hope, chastity, destiny set (no offense I’d you do like those though)

Middle names we’re considering

[name]Truman[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Truman[/name] [name]Wade[/name]
[name]Truman[/name] [name]James[/name]

2 are family names and 1 is a name my husband LOVES but I like it.

Okay let me know!

I like [name]Truman[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] as well but DH thinks it’s a bit long, I think it flows nicely.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Truman[/name] oliver btw!

[name]Truman[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] are very presidential! I love it though. Great choice for your family and no pronunciation concerns by living in a Spanish speaking country.

[name]Truman[/name] is fine…but ever considered [name]Gordon[/name]…ok ok, nevermind, [name]Truman[/name]'s a winner!

[name]Love[/name] [name]Truman[/name]!

I actually have considered [name]Gordon[/name] and love it! BUT gordo is fat in Spanish [name]Donita[/name] a no go lol!
