We considered [name]Locke[/name] for a while, and I really like it. In the end we decided it clashed with our surname too much.
I much prefer [name]Locke[/name] to [name]Lachlan[/name] and [name]Luke[/name]. I’ve never cared for the sound or popularity of [name]Luke[/name], and [name]Lachlan[/name] feels like it could easily join trendy crowds who like to put "y"s in every name. I do really love the idea of [name]Lachlan[/name], though.
I think [name]Loki[/name] is usable. I do not think the Norse association makes it “completely out of the question” at all. People use Greek deities all the time. Also, saints and apostles from Christianity (which is not really the same, but close). If anything, I would be more concerned with the current popularity of the Avengers.
What do you think of [name]Locke[/name] as a first name? I don’t like it. It just seems very abrupt and bland.
Are [name]Lachlan[/name] and [name]Luke[/name] better options? Which would you rather see used? I do love [name]Lachlan[/name] though and that would give you the right sound for a [name]Locke[/name] nickname. [name]Luke[/name] is boring for me
Am I the only person who wishes [name]Loki[/name] was more usable? I feel like it’s completely out of the question because of the Norse god. I’m using [name]Loki[/name] in a combo. [name]Raphael[/name] [name]Loki[/name] [name]Constantine[/name] or [name]Loki[/name] ---- [name]Constantine[/name]. I also know one little boy named [name]Loki[/name] who’d be something like 5 now. I think it’s perfectly usable. If you actually read the mythology, [name]Loki[/name] is a misunderstood guy. He’s certainly not evil like he’s portrayed by [name]Marvel[/name]. There’s actually a giant chunk of the mythos where he’s helping [name]Thor[/name] and [name]Odin[/name] out of of every single thing they get into. Really, they act like they can’t do anything without him for a while. He helps them a lot, and when he does play tricks, he always fixes it. He’s very under appreciated.
That being said, not everyone will know that but really, I don’t think it should matter. It’s not hurting your child, he would have a rich and very interesting history to his name, and every boy his own age will think of the [name]Marvel[/name] character who isn’t even seen as a super big threat in the movies.
I actually like [name]Locke[/name]. Though it sounds very surnamey so I’d probably only use it as a nickname. I think [name]Lachlan[/name] nn [name]Locke[/name] is a fab idea. Or [name]Sherlock[/name] nn [name]Locke[/name]!
I do love [name]Luke[/name] and I like [name]Lachlan[/name]. I think they’re definitely more mainstream than [name]Locke[/name] on it’s own. It seems like a fabulous adult name but it’s hard to imagine a 6 year old [name]Locke[/name].
Actually [name]Loki[/name] sounds too close to “low key” for me. What about [name]Luca[/name]/[name]Luka[/name]? similar feel.
I find [name]Locke[/name] intriguing. I think of lakes and locks… both good things. I like [name]Lachlan[/name] too - I really enjoy making that slightly guttural “CH” sound. [name]Luke[/name] doesn’t do much for me. Lukewarm. [name]Loki[/name]… I don’t know the mythology surrounding this name, but there are plenty of other cute, crisp names ending in the “ee” sound, without the negative associations. Also, it makes me think “low-key.”
[name]Locke[/name] sounds like a surname to me, so I’d consider it for a middle name spot if it were in my family tree, but not a first name. I do like pp’s suggestion of [name]Sherlock[/name], nn [name]Lock[/name], but [name]Sherlock[/name] has some issues of its own.
Yes, I think [name]Lachlan[/name] and [name]Luke[/name] are much more usable. I don’t think either one is better over the other, they are just different. [name]Lachlan[/name] obviously is very Scottish and does have a fantastic and unique masculine sound. I wish I were brave enough to use that name. Although, as pp said, I can definitely see parents of girls stealing this one before it even gets popular for the boys and throwing a “y” in there somewhere to “make it feminine.” Bleagh. [name]Luke[/name] is a name I would absolutely use. I love the classic, traditional nature of the name and the sound of it. The only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t have a nickname.
I’m not a fan of [name]Loki[/name]. I don’t know the mythology behind him well enough to be turned off or on by it, but it just sounds like a nickname or a name from a completely different (maybe [name]Asian[/name]?) culture to me. I know it’s not; I’m just saying that’s the kind of sound it has to me.
Personally, I think [name]Locke[/name] is cute, but I would use it as a nickname for [name]Lachlan[/name].
I prefer [name]Lachlan[/name] over [name]Luke[/name].
I think [name]Loki[/name] is cute, but I wouldn’t ever use it, it just sounds to childish. Perhaps you can use it as nickname for a [name]Lachlan[/name] (which I think [name]Loki[/name] works as a nn for)
[name]Locke[/name] is interesting and quirky and could work with the right middle name and last name. I could imagine some interesting jokes about the name though but nothing that would scar a child for life or anything.
I’d rather see [name]Lachlan[/name] to [name]Luke[/name] or [name]Locke[/name], yes. [name]Luke[/name] is too popular/common in the UK.
I don’t see many names as being unusable, I’d definitely use the name [name]Atlas[/name] and that is a big name to carry for anyone. If you and your partner love the name then I don’t have a problem with it. I’d rather meet a [name]Loki[/name] than another [name]Jaden[/name], [name]Caden[/name] or [name]Braden[/name].
I like [name]Locke[/name], especially as homage to the philosopher, but it is a pop culture name post-LOST. That might make it more acceptable, though.
I do prefer the fun Scottish [name]Lachlan[/name], but it’s so unknown in the US it might be confused with tryndee girls’ [name]Locklyn[/name].
I don’t care for [name]Loki[/name], not in sound nor in namesake. I knew an actual, real [name]Loki[/name] (who’s 34), and he was a troubled soul, despite his expensive boarding school and [name]Ivy[/name] degree. He was given to grandiosity, so who knows, but in his more maudlin moments he admitted he had spent a lot of his dissipated youth trying to live up to his name.
What do you think of [name]Locke[/name] as a first name?
Makes me think of the philosopher. [name]Don[/name]'t really see completely eye-to-eye with him and would only use [name]Locke[/name] if I did.
Are [name]Lachlan[/name] and [name]Luke[/name] better options? Which would you rather see used?
[name]Lachlan[/name] is more popular than [name]Luke[/name] here. [name]Luke[/name], like [name]John[/name], feels completely classic to me. I’m tired of [name]Luca[/name] and to some extent [name]Lucas[/name] but I like [name]Luke[/name] for its lack of pretension.
Am I the only person who wishes [name]Loki[/name] was more usable? I feel like it’s completely out of the question because of the Norse god. -
No, doesn’t do much for me, but I wish people wouldn’t go “like the jeans?!” when I say I like [name]Levi[/name].
I think [name]Locke[/name] can works. I like [name]Fyfe[/name], so I don’t see it as being much different in terms of construction or feel. [name]Locke[/name] could definitely grow on me.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Lachlan[/name]! [name]Luke[/name] is fine, but doesn’t hold my attention.
I’m not a huge fan of [name]Locke[/name]… The sound and look just don’t appeal to me.
I like [name]Luke[/name] the most, although [name]Lachlan[/name] is definitely growing on me.
OMG NO, I wish it was! Although, it’s actually in the top 1000 in [name]England[/name] & [name]Wales[/name] {probably due to The Avengers, however}. I love the sound of it and I think it’s so sweet, and I don’t really know the myth, but I gather that it’s not good, and therefore probably would never use it.
