Looking for girls names you would consider classicly feminine without being overused?

*I would also like to honor my mother [name]Annabelle[/name] and use her name as a middle name, so it’s important that it flows well. I know I’m picky, I just want to make sure I end up picking the perfect name  The problem with me is I’m very indecisive. I’ll start to like a name but obsess over it to the point where I begin to hate it and repeat the process all over again with a different name lol. Anyway, here is a list of names I currently like [and why I like them] just so you can get a general idea of what my style is…Please comment on each name/Tell me what you like or dislike about it/Rate from most favorite to least favorite…THANKS!!

[name]Hazel[/name]-To me, this name epitomizes what I’m looking for. It’s classy and feminine with a vintage-y feel to it and not very common at all, at least not where I’m from [live in South [name]Florida[/name]]. I like the nickname Hazey too. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Annabelle[/name] works well as a middle name? Does it sound too old timey?

[name]Lila[/name]-Pronounced [name]LY[/name]-LAH. I’ve always loved this name. It’s very feminine and classic. My only concern with using this name is pronounciation. I don’t want people calling her [name]LEE[/name]-LA or LiLL-[name]AH[/name]. People have told me to alter the spelling to [name]Lyla[/name] so it would be easier for people to pronounce, but I personally think it takes away from the beauty of the name and I just hate made up spellings. I prefer the original. Also DH isn’t really a fan of this name but this doesn’t concern me as much because I can always twist his arm  I personally think [name]Annabelle[/name] flows beautifully with [name]Lila[/name]. What do ya’ll think?

[name]Katarina[/name]-Pronounced [name]KAT[/name]-[name]AH[/name]-[name]REE[/name]-NAH. Ok this one is DH’s pick. At first I didn’t care for it but it has grown on me the more and more I say it out loud. I think my main problem with the name is the harsh K sound. Anyway, he likes the middle name [name]Skye[/name]. WDYT?? [name]Katarina[/name] [name]Skye[/name]…kinda has a nice ring to it doesn’t it??..

[name]Maya[/name]/[name]Maia[/name]-Pronounced MY-UH. This is probably my favorite from my list. I think it’s a classy feminine name with a bit of an exotic flair. The only concern with this name is again pronounciation. For whatever reason, a lot of people look at [name]Maya[/name] and are compelled to pronounce it [name]MAY[/name]-[name]AH[/name] which is not the way I’d like it pronounced. I despise the spelling [name]Mya[/name]. It just looks choppy and unfinished. So, we are left with [name]Maia[/name] which is the Greek spelling. I like the way this spelling looks the best. WDYT?? [name]Do[/name] you like the way [name]Annabelle[/name] flows with [name]Maia[/name]? The double A sounds kind of bothers me. [name]Feel[/name] free to include some other mn suggestions…

[name]Serena[/name]-I love this name for it’s simplicity, beauty and uniqueness. It makes me think of mermaids  I don’t think [name]Annabelle[/name] would pair well though so if I end up choosing this name, I might have to honor my mother in another way.

Sorry for the super long post. I hope ya’ll take the time to read this and give me as detailed of an answer as possible. Please feel free to include your favorite girls names. I appreciate your time and comments. Thank you!!

[name]Annabel[/name]/[name]Annabelle[/name] is one of my top favorite names. If my mom were named [name]Annabel[/name], I’d use it as a first in a heartbeat. I love it. That said, the first name that popped into my head when you described the kind of name you want was [name]Alice[/name], and I think [name]Alice[/name] [name]Annabel/name sounds perfect!! But that was before I realized you wanted comments on an existing list, so here those are:

[name]Hazel[/name]: This one is a little too vintage-y for me, feels more trendy than classic, and I do think the dual “el” sound endings makes it slightly awkward.
[name]Lila[/name]: I also have always loved this name. I never thought of it as a classic, but I guess you’re right (which makes me like it even more). And [name]Lila[/name] [name]Annabelle[/name] really sounds lovely. Also, don’t change the spelling. I know those other spellings are valid, but people either know how to pronounce it or they don’t, and you shouldn’t change the spelling of a beautiful name to suit the lowest common denominator or name-pronouncers.
[name]Katarina[/name]: Feels too ethnic for someone to use who has no connection to Eastern Europe/[name]Russia[/name]. A friend of mine used it (and does have a connection) and she still gets strange comments and looks. Beautiful name, though. Not a fan of [name]Skye[/name] though.
[name]Maya[/name]/[name]Maia[/name]: Also a beautiful name. Same story on the spelling – use the spelling you love; people will figure it out. For some reason the “a” ending bothers me a bit with [name]Annabelle[/name], but it didn’t with [name]Lila[/name] … not sure why.
[name]Serena[/name]: Also love. Gorgeous. And I actually think [name]Serena[/name] [name]Annabelle[/name] flows nicely. Again, can’t say why the “a” ending doesn’t bother me with this one.

From your list, I like [name]Lila[/name] the best by far, followed by [name]Maya[/name] and [name]Serena[/name]. But my favorite is [name]Alice[/name]. Something about [name]Alice[/name] [name]Annabelle[/name] just really gets me. Must be the alliteration. Good luck!

  1. [name]Lila[/name]
  2. [name]Maya[/name]
  3. [name]Hazel[/name]
  4. [name]Katarina[/name]
  5. [name]Serena[/name]

I am partial to [name]Lila[/name], it is my own name and I don’t think my parents could have done any better! I love it for it’s simplicity and charm, it’s very classicly feminine in my opinion and I hardly ever meet other [name]Lila[/name]'s.
I have got nothing but positive feedback on my name. And almost everyone I meet says it right. [name]Don[/name]'t spell it differently it takes away from all of it beauty! I also think [name]Lila[/name] is perfect with [name]Annabelle[/name].
My mum chose it for the same reasons I’ve noted above and because she read a diary entry of one of my great grandfathers and the girl he was in love with during the 1st World War was a beautiful blonde nurse named [name]Lila[/name], they didn’t end up together but mum thought it was a wonderful story!

The other names that are on your list are all lovely to, except maybe [name]Serena[/name]. I personally don’t like because there was a horrible girl named [name]Serena[/name] at my school, but alone on it’s own it’s not that bad!

Other suggestions I have:
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Louise[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Mae[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]- The nicknames all work for you criteria as well!
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]

I don’t really know about my suggestions, I’m not great at giving them! But I really like [name]Eliza[/name]!
I hope you finally decide on something, don’t just settle, find the name!

[name]Lila[/name]

What a wonderful story behind your name [name]Lila[/name] and thank you so much for your comments and for sharing

You have great taste, and I love [name]Annabelle[/name]!
I agree that names ending in a sound awkward with [name]Annabelle[/name], however.
[name]Hazel[/name] is very lovely, and I also like [name]Maya[/name] and [name]Lila[/name].

Have you thought of something like [name]Johanna[/name] [name]Belle[/name], [name]Marianna[/name] [name]Belle[/name], [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Belle[/name], or [name]Rosanna[/name] [name]Belle[/name]? I don’t know if that’s too cheesy!

I would also suggest:
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Flora[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Audra[/name]/[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Honor[/name]
[name]June[/name]
[name]Jane[/name]
[name]Seraphina[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Mary[/name]
[name]Helen[/name]
[name]Edith[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Laura[/name]
[name]Mae[/name]

Your choices are lovely! Here are my ratings…([name]IMO[/name])

[name]Serena[/name] - Beautiful sound to it. Very feminine, soft and calming.
[name]Lila[/name] - very feminine sound to it but I prefer the [name]Lyla[/name] spelling
[name]Katerina[/name] - a bit exotic and feminine
[name]Maya[/name] - lovely
[name]Hazel[/name] - not to fond of this one

Some other classic feminine names

[name]Katherine[/name]/[name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Kathleen[/name]/[name]Kathline[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]/[name]Carolyn[/name]
[name]Frances[/name]/[name]Francine[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]/[name]Marguerite[/name]
[name]Florence[/name]
[name]Pricilla[/name]
[name]Gabriella[/name]

I think [name]Annabelle[/name] sounds lovely with all of these too.

[name]Katarina[/name], without a doubt (though I prefer the spelling [name]Katerina[/name]). Very pretty [name]Skye[/name] is okay. I’m not a huge fan, but if you guys like it, go for it.

Other names you might consider:

[name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Anneliese[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Adrienne[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name]

I love all the names on your list [name]Lila[/name] is pretty and simple as is [name]Maya[/name].
[name]Hazel[/name] is lovely but I agree , Vintage trendy rather than classic and may annoy you if the popularity soars which it prob will
[name]Katarina[/name] and [name]Serena[/name] both lovely and more ‘exotic’ than [name]Lila[/name] and [name]Maya[/name] , [name]Katarina[/name] especially so.

It depends what ‘feel’ you want , so for me [name]Lila[/name] and [name]Maya[/name] feel the same - my preference being [name]Maya[/name]
[name]Katarina[/name] and [name]Serena[/name] ( edited : whoops missed out a word) feel similar- preference being [name]Katarina[/name]

[name]Hazel[/name] is the odd one out .

Have you ever thought of honoring mum through another [name]Belle[/name] name? I love [name]Mirabel[/name] which is really underused - is this too frilly for you?

Some more names you may like:
[name]Martha[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Maple[/name] or [name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Faye[/name]
[name]Cara[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Greta[/name]
[name]Estella[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Edie[/name] (nn for [name]Edith[/name]? )

Thank you Misshoppy  And yes I have thought of using [name]Belle[/name] and even [name]Bella[/name] [moms nn] but the problem with [name]Belle[/name] is it’s too southern sounding for my taste if that makes sense. [name]Bella[/name] is a bit better but it makes me think of Twilight and even though I love me some Twilight I don’t want that association. I think the full name [name]Annabelle[/name] is better. I don’t know, I think I’m just being overly picky :/…From your list I like [name]Rose[/name] as a middle name for [name]Maia[/name]. It just sounds flawless to me  DH has mentioned [name]Flora[/name] before and [name]Seraphina[/name], but I’m not really on board with those. I’ve always liked [name]Alice[/name], however I think it’s too plain. [name]Audrey[/name] has always been on my list as well, although I prefer [name]Audrina[/name]. It’s a bit less common but unfortunately someone we know has used that name so it’s been taken off the list. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me and for all your wonderful suggestions

Thank ya’ll so much for the overwhelming responses. I’m still so confused though lol. The two that are standing out the most to me right now are [name]Maia[/name] and [name]Serena[/name]. And Jodest, I never thought of using another [name]Belle[/name] name to honor my mom but that’s not such a bad idea. I’ll def look into some other names. Thank you for that suggestion. Much appreciated

My first thought was [name]Scarlett[/name].

[name]Scarlett[/name] [name]Annabelle[/name] sounds so beautiful.
I don’t like K names so [name]Katarina[/name] I don’t really like (also it reminds me
Of hurricane [name]Katrina[/name]) , but one of my newly discovered favorites is [name]Carina[/name]- which is similar. Also [name]Carolina[/name] gives you the same syllable sound and takes away the k.

I like [name]Lila[/name], [name]Maya[/name], and [name]Serena[/name] but in my mind they don’t work that well with [name]Annabelle[/name] as a middle.

[name]Annabelle[/name] [name]Serena[/name] on the other hand sounds awesome! Maybe you could move it into the first place position?

I think [name]Annabelle[/name] works with all of your names. My daughter is [name]Maya[/name] so I’m slightly partial to this name  I think it’s simple and beautiful. I also love [name]Lila[/name] and I feel like it’s a really similar style to [name]Maya[/name]. Those are my top two
