Looking for opinions on our name list - due any day!

Please give me your thoughts on our names! I was due yesterday and we still have no “for sure” name for either boy or girl (and we don’t know if it’s a boy or girl, which makes it all the more overwhelming). I recently posted about the name [name]Octavia[/name], asking if it was too cheesy to have the same (unusual) first letter for sibling names -our son’s name is [name]Orson[/name] - and your comments were helpful, so maybe you can help us narrow it down more…? Any favourites jump out at you? We both lean slightly towards [name]Octavia[/name] for a girl, but we’re not set on it. We also love the name [name]Winter[/name], but are concerned it’s a bit flaky sounding…? We like names that are not very popular. Thank-you!

Girls:

[name]Octavia[/name]
[name]Veda[/name]
[name]Winifred[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
Elowen

Boys:

[name]Flynn[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Reuben[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]

Aw, I don’t think [name]Winter[/name] is flaky. It’s pretty. But from your list, I really like [name]Veda[/name] and [name]Winifred[/name]. The latter name would give you a lot of nickname options. I’m not familiar with Elowen, but I like it.

I actually love all your boys names. My favorites area [name]Flynn[/name] and [name]August[/name]. [name]Reuben[/name] was on my list for a while, but I just couldn’t commit to it.

I love [name]Octavia[/name] - and [name]Imogen[/name] is a favorite of mine as well. I don’t think [name]Winter[/name] sounds flaky at all. My favorites on your boys list is [name]Felix[/name] and [name]August[/name]. All would go well with [name]Orson[/name].

I favor [name]Winifred[/name] from your girls list, and I like all of your boy choices!

Something to think about if you choose [name]Octavia[/name]: Since you already have [name]Orson[/name], would you feel “locked in” to naming all of your children (should you have another) “O” names?

[name]Octavia[/name]! its awesome, who cares if they match.
[name]Winifred[/name] would be my 2nd choice, but [name]Orsen[/name] and [name]Winifred[/name] doesnt sound right to me.

From your boys list i like:
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]August[/name]

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but would you consider [name]Tavia[/name] as an alternative to [name]Octavia[/name]? Thought it might be an option if the only thing holding you back was the “O” in both names. From your girls names I liked [name]Veda[/name] and [name]Octavia[/name]. [name]August[/name] immediately caught my eye on your boys list. [name]Gus[/name] would make an adorable nickname for a little [name]August[/name].

I looooooove the name Elowen. You’re the first person here (besides me) who I’ve seen mention it on here. Good luck!

Girls:

[name]Octavia[/name] - Not my favorite name, but it’s nice. As PP said, would you feel that you had to give more kids (if you’re having more) an “O” name? I think if there’s just one more kid without an “O” name it might be weird, but if there are more than it’s fine.
[name]Veda[/name] - [name]Kinda[/name] like it. I think I like [name]Vera[/name] more, but that’s just me.
[name]Winifred[/name] - My favorite out of your girls names.
[name]Imogen[/name] - I like this too. It’s different and I like the sound of it.
Elowen - I kind of like the sound of it. Not sure if I’ve heard this name. It could grow on me.

Boys:

[name]Flynn[/name] - Like but I feel like it might be gaining popularity.
[name]August[/name] - It’s ok. NMS.
[name]Felix[/name] - Not bad.
[name]Reuben[/name] - I’m usually in the minority in that I don’t like this name. It just reminds me of the sandwich (which I love) or the guy from American Idol.
[name]Frederick[/name] - A good, classic name. Good potential for nicknames ([name]Fred[/name], [name]Freddy[/name]/[name]Freddie[/name], [name]Rick[/name], [name]Ricky[/name], etc).

I love [name]Imogen[/name] and in particular [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] or [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] [name]Winter[/name]

[name]Flynn[/name] is very dashing so I vote for him, [name]Flynn[/name] [name]Dashiell[/name] …?

From that list I’d pick either [name]Imogen[/name] or Elowen, or [name]Flynn[/name] or [name]Reuben[/name].

Girls:

[name]Octavia[/name] - Yeah I like it and remember your post about [name]Orson[/name] and [name]Octavia[/name] and I still think they’re great together.
[name]Veda[/name] - Not loving this one but nothing wrong with it.
[name]Winifred[/name] - can’t help but think old lady (although a lot of these names are coming back into fashion) but I knew a lady called this who was in her 90s so cannot shake the image.
[name]Imogen[/name] - I like [name]Imogen[/name], I have suggested to my hubby but he is not convinced lol
Elowen - I prefer others on your list before this one, probably my least favourite here.

Boys:

[name]Flynn[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this one, think it could get popular at the moment though?
[name]August[/name] - Yep, again this is great!
[name]Felix[/name] - Can’t help but think of [name]Felix[/name] the cat and this name is growing in popularity - if popularity is an issue you might want to avoid?
[name]Reuben[/name] - I always loved this one and wanted to use it but recently it’s become popular and I’ve come across a surprising amount of children called [name]Reuben[/name], which has put me off.
[name]Frederick[/name] - Good classic but sounds up to date to me! Can’t see a problem with any of your boy names!

My favorites from your list are [name]Veda[/name] and Elowen (girls) and [name]Flynn[/name]. I’m not too sure about using the same first letter, particularly if you plan to have a 3rd, because I feel like it puts pressure on you to use another “O” name again, or else the 3rd name kind of sticks out in the sibling set. And “O” names are difficult for me!

I love [name]Veda[/name]! [name]Veda[/name] [name]Winter[/name] would be lovely. [name]Winter[/name] is also pretty as a first name. [name]Imogen[/name] is my other favorite from your list. For a boy, I like [name]Felix[/name] and [name]August[/name] best.

Thanks for all the responses again! I do worry a bit about both the trendiness factor with [name]Flynn[/name] and its confusion with the ever-so-popular [name]Finn[/name]… otherwise, I think that would be our “for sure” boy pick… as of now, we are leaning towards [name]August[/name] - as someone mentioned, [name]Gus[/name] or Auggie are both pretty awesome nicknames (though [name]August[/name] is much more popular than I thought it would be, when I looked it up). It’s interesting how varied everyone’s opinions are on our girl names… we are still unsure… but now we have put [name]Winter[/name] back on the table, aghhh!

I love your name choices! [name]Imogen[/name] is the name of one of the characters in my up-coming children’s book series; so, I’m partial to that. A dear friend named her second daughter [name]Veda[/name], and she is just about the most gorgeous child I’ve ever seen - truly beautiful! But [name]Octavia[/name] is a lovely choice; I can see why you both lean towards it. Also if you’re both leaning that way, I would just go ahead and embrace it since agreeing is often 99% percent of the naming battle.

As for boys, a good friend named her son [name]Felix[/name]; and he is truly one of the happiest kids. I believe a name’s meaning can rub off on the child, like a blessing (or curse)…with a name like [name]Felix[/name] how could your child NOT be beaming with joy all the time? In the end, though, I would probably choose [name]Flynn[/name]. I always lean toward Irish names; this is a spunky name with all the charm of [name]Finn[/name]/[name]Fionn[/name] without being too over-used.

In the end, I would go with [name]Octavia[/name] or [name]Flynn[/name]. But really, with these choices, you can’t go wrong - good luck to you!

Congratulations on your excellent and distinctive taste in names!

That said, I do think your favorites, while all lovely, fall into two groups. The wonderful-yet-destined-for-greater-popularity, and the wonderful-yet-destined-to-stay-more obscure.

In the first category are [name]Flynn[/name], [name]Felix[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], and yes, I think [name]August[/name] (or at least [name]Gus[/name]). In the second are your other choices. I love [name]Octavia[/name]. [name]Love[/name] [name]Winifred[/name] too and think she’s a great companion for [name]Orson[/name] without the O issue, though you certainly can’t do [name]Winifred[/name] [name]Winter[/name]. Elowen is wonderful and we definitely need to add that to the database. [name]Veda[/name] is NMS – too sort of 1930s Bohemian for me.

On the boys side, my favorite with [name]Orson[/name] is definitely [name]Reuben[/name]. I love that name. [name]Frederick[/name] is wonderful but a bit conventional compared with [name]Orson[/name]. [name]August[/name] is also a good match though definitely more fashionable.

Can’t wait to hear what you choose – and sounds as if we won’t have to wait long!

I love Elowen and [name]Winifred[/name].
For Boys: My favorite is [name]August[/name] or [name]Felix[/name]. I love [name]Orson[/name] btw.

My favorites for a girl are [name]Winter[/name] & [name]Winifred[/name]. For a boy, I like [name]August[/name] & [name]Felix[/name].

[name]August[/name] [name]Reuban[/name]
Elowen [name]Veda[/name]

I quite love [name]Winter[/name] for a girl and [name]Frederick[/name] for a boy.
