Name hunting has been pretty one-sided in our house with me suggesting names and my hubby (mostly) vetoing them… I’m looking for some names similar to the ones he has actually liked to suggest. We don’t know the sex of the baby so we’re looking for both boys & girls. I’ve noticed anything that likes names that aren’t too “exotic” or “old” sounding.
Names we both like:
[name_m]Holt[/name_m]
[name_m]Drake[/name_m]
[name_m]Angus[/name_m]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_u]Henley[/name_u]
[name_u]Waverly[/name_u]
BOYS: Based on your list, I looked for familiar names (but not in the top 100) that have a short, masculine staccato (like [name_m]Holt[/name_m] and [name_m]Drake[/name_m]) or a strong emphasis on the first syllable (like [name_m]Angus[/name_m]). Also looked for hard consonant sounds, and names that feel traditional, maybe even ancient, but are seeing a revival. Nothing boyish or cute. There’s a Scottish/Irish bent too.
GIRLS: Based on your list, I looked for names that are a step away from their more popular cousins (like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] or [name_u]Addison[/name_u]; [name_u]Henley[/name_u] instead of [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], [name_u]Finley[/name_u] and [name_f]Kinsley[/name_f]; [name_u]Waverly[/name_u] instead of [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_u]Everly[/name_u]). I looked for feminine, even soft or flowy, but not frilly. Nothing super short or masculine, though a few are technically unisex.
