[name]Hi[/name] everyone! A good friend is looking for a less common N middle name that would go with the first name [name]Leela[/name]. I jumped at the opportunity to help-- she is going through quite severe bouts of morning sickness and has lost any desire to name hunt! She is only looking to match it with a name that starts with the letter N (husband’s name is [name]Nicholas[/name] hence the want for an N name)… except that having gone through a few baby name books, the task is plain difficult because all the usable N baby names are the ones that are always being used. I was wondering if anyone on here could help me with suggesting others that they have come across that perhaps, don’t always appear in name books?
So far, she has already stated she does not want these N names: any forms of [name]Nic[/name]—, [name]Nigella[/name], [name]Natasha[/name] and [name]Natalie[/name]. She also does not want [name]Norah[/name] due to rising popularity. HELP!
Can anyone on the board also help with culturally unique N names?
One that comes to mind is [name]Noelani[/name] (no-eh-LAH-nee), a Hawaiin name meaning “heavenly mist.” A similar Hawaiin name is [name]Nalani[/name]. A tiny bit “l” heavy with [name]Leela[/name], but I think especially [name]Noelani[/name] would work.
[name]Just[/name] for kicks, I found out that [name]Leela[/name] is an [name]Indian[/name] (Sanskrit) name meaning “sport” or “play,” according to babynames.com. Nameberry reports that the name means “playful.”
I especially like [name]Leela[/name] with the other [name]Indian[/name] (Sanskrit) names - [name]Leela[/name] [name]Naveen[/name], [name]Leela[/name] Nimai, [name]Leela[/name] Nivritti - but they are all uncommon and beautiful!
[name]Hi[/name]! Ooh, I like [name]Leela[/name] [name]Naveen[/name]! But my friend is [name]Indian[/name] herself (her name is Priyanka, which I think is gorgeous) and her husband is Scottish. She feels like she got to choose an [name]Indian[/name] name for herself already with [name]Leela[/name] and so, would like to find something other than an [name]Indian[/name] name for the middle name now. Have to say though, [name]Leela[/name] Nivritti sounds nicer and nicer to me. I will put all these suggestions in front of her and see what she says. Thanks lemon!
