Looking to add more "Love It" names to our list!

We’re having our first child, a girl, in mid-late [name_u]November[/name_u] and so far we only have 3 [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] IT names on our mutual favorite names list.

Her middle name is probably going to be [name_f]Rose[/name_f], an honor name after his mother’s middle name. My signature also contains other honor names that we could consider.

In general, I’m trying to avoid first names that end in an ‘n’ or an ‘un’ sound, as in ‘hun’, ‘bun’, ‘run’. Last name is two syllables, starts with an ‘R’ and ends in the ‘un’ sound.

What is your honest opinion of the names we are considering now? If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them!

So, we have:

Xylyn/Xylin [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (ZYE-lin) long ‘i’ as in ‘sigh’, ‘lie’ or ‘fry’ - this is his top fav and I love the sound and uniqueness but I’m concerned it may be too unique or too trendy-sounding. It kind of reminds me of a combo of Xylophone and Violin, which is kinda cool. Also, does an ‘in’ sound work with a last name that ends in an ‘un’ sound?

[name_f]Amberly[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - A cute, feminine name that she can choose to go by [name_f]Amber[/name_f] if she wants. [name_f]Amber[/name_f] is also a similar color to [name_f]Topaz[/name_f] and Citrine, [name_u]November[/name_u] birthstones. But is [name_f]Amberly[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] too common-sounding? Is the negative stripper stereotype still attached to this name?

Kamiah [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (Kuh-MY-uh) - She could choose to go by [name_f]Kami[/name_f] or [name_f]Miah[/name_f]/[name_f]Mia[/name_f]. It’s a beautiful town in Idaho (the state where we live) and I just absolutely love the sound of it.

None of your names are my style, but I like Kamiah [name_f]Rose[/name_f] the best. Xylin/Xylyn feels extremely trendy and made-up to me and there would be so many spelling errors with this name… I’m not a fan of it at all. I don’t love [name_f]Amberly[/name_f] and feel that weird stripper stereotype to it, especially with the full combo [name_f]Amberly[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

I also like Kamaiah the best. I think Xylin would have too many pronunciation and spelling issues. I do think [name_f]Amberly[/name_f] is pretty. I know an Amberleigh (this spelling) and she is a lawyer, so I don’t get a stripper vibe from it.

I think that Xylin/Xylyn will be an issue for a lot of people in both spelling & pronunciation. For me it seems very scifi in nature…I might be thinking of the Cylons from Battlestar Galactica.

I think [name_f]Amberly[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is very pretty & I don’t get a stripper vibe from it at all. Kamiah is also pretty, but I prefer Amberley. Incidentally, Autocorrect wants to spell it Amberley…not sure if that will cause spelling issues.

[name_f]Amberly[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and Kamiah [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are nice!! [name_f]Kami[/name_f] is such a sweet nickname

Some suggestions:
[name_f]Maleah[/name_f]/[name_f]Malia[/name_f]
[name_f]Camber[/name_f]
Zyla
[name_f]Cerise[/name_f]
Abeline
[name_u]Waverly[/name_u]
[name_f]Janelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Camellia[/name_f]
[name_f]Laelia[/name_f]

I agree: Amberley or Kamiah. I also like [name_f]Emberly[/name_f], [name_u]Everly[/name_u] and [name_f]Kira[/name_f] from your sig. Xylin is too sci-fi meets pharmaceutical for me.

Some others (though my style is v different so taking a stab here):

[name_m]Rainer[/name_m]
[name_f]Cambria[/name_f]
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f]
Temperly
[name_f]Keturah[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolores[/name_f]
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] nn [name_u]Zuri[/name_u]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Orla[/name_f]
[name_f]Zadie[/name_f]

Of your three, none of which are my style, Kamiah [name_f]Rose[/name_f] seems best. Although when I first saw it, I assumed it was pronounced Ka-MEE-ah.

Xylyn/Xylin - looks like a name brand drug, akin to Xanax. That’s what first came to my mind. I think all the consonants in Xylyn are harsh and unattractive too.

[name_f]Amberly[/name_f] - I think it has a bit of a stripper quality too, and I think of verbs right away…ambling, ambulate, undulate…

While none of these names are appealing to me personally, I dislike Kamiah the least so that would be my choice. Xylin/Xylyn 100% sounds like a drug name or a pharmaceutical company, and Amberley sounds like a stripper name to me (as does [name_f]Amber[/name_f]).

Thank you very much for your opinion, it really helps! SO is really, really stuck on Xylyn and so I am trying to get outside opinions to hopefully help him be more open to other name suggestions. I definitely want to find a name that we both love but it would be nice if it is also a name that even strangers don’t hate or think is too weird, awkward, etc.

So far Xylyn reminds people of a new prescription drug and I totally get the stripper stereotype associated with an [name_f]Amber[/name_f] as a base in a name. Though, I do still think [name_f]Amberly[/name_f] is pretty and I absolutely love the color of amber. I guess it was one of those names from the 80’s that was super popular and it worked really well as a stripper name, so now that association is pretty permanent. Plus, there’s the celebrity [name_f]Amber[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] to compete with, which is totally not my intent.

Thank you very much for your opinion, it really helps!

Oh, hey, I hadn’t thought of the Cylon connection. I loved the new version of Battlestar Galactica when it came out. Maybe that’s why Xylin kind of stuck with me. I don’t think SO has seen the new version but he is really, really stuck on that name. I think you’re right about spelling and pronunciation issues. That is definitely something to consider.

Definitely open to other spellings, so Amberley works, too. There’s always a spelling issue with any name, isn’t there? Someone out there is always going to spell even the most common names wrong sometimes. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t want to set out to make things too hard at the start, though. Thanks for your opinion!

Thank you for the additional suggestions, these are great!

[name_f]Janel[/name_f] happens to be my middle name and I hadn’t quite considered using it for [name_u]Baby[/name_u]'s first. I do like the [name_f]Janelle[/name_f] spelling best.

[name_f]Camber[/name_f], Abeline and [name_u]Waverly[/name_u] are really interesting, I like them. They kind of add a vintage touch to the already vintage [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. Unless [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is considered trendy right now.

[name_f]Maleah[/name_f], [name_f]Cerise[/name_f], Zyla and [name_f]Laelia[/name_f] are really pretty. I know SO likes the name [name_f]Lily[/name_f] but I have friends who had their first child about a year and a half ago and named her [name_f]Lily[/name_f] so [name_f]Laelia[/name_f] might be a good alternative.

Thank you for the suggestions, these are also great! I will bring them up to the SO.

You’re not the only one who said Xylin appears a bit too prescription drug and I hadn’t really thought of the sci-fi angle, but you’re right, it certainly does remind me of those two things now that they’ve been mentioned.

A new love of mine is [name_f]Kami[/name_f]. That would be pretty. Kamri would be too.

For a boy what about [name_m]Luther[/name_m] , [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m] or [name_u]Chandler[/name_u]?

I actually found out today that the town in which that name is from is actually pronounced [name_m]KAM[/name_m]-EE-eye. I was totally off. I could see how it could be pronounced Ka-MEE-ah, too. My first impression was that it was pronounced Kuh-MY-uh, so there could definitely be some pronunciation issues there.

I guess if I ever had the opportunity to name a drug, Xylyn would be it! That seems to be most people’s first impression of that name so that’s a major consideration.

Thank you for the verb associations you thought of. It’s really nice to hear outsider’s opinions of names that sound great in your head but might not work well on a grander scale.

Kamiah [name_f]Rose[/name_f] sounds best to me.
My problem with Xylin is the 2 syllable first and last.
The mn won’t come up all that often unless you call her Xylin-[name_f]Rose[/name_f].

I have to be honest, Xylyn hurts my eyes, and I don’t think Xylyn R—on sounds great. [name_f]Amberly[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would probably be my favorite, but it almost sounds like a description (“an amber rose”) and I’m not fond of that.

I think Kamiah [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is sweet and has meaning for you, and it has nice nicknames.

FWIW, from your signature, I think [name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would be beautiful.
