Or [name]Lorcan[/name], [name]Gregor[/name] and [name]Avis[/name]? Which spelling works best here? Impressions on coming across a sibset of these names? [name]How[/name] would you describe such a set? Final checking
I definitely prefer the [name]Avis[/name] spelling. At first glance I thought [name]Avice[/name] was Advice. My other thought was that in [name]Lorcan[/name] and [name]Gregor[/name], each letter is necessary. With the [name]Avis[/name] spelling each letter is necessary, whereas [name]Avice[/name] is a āfrillyā spelling.
I think these names are fine together.
[name]Lorcan[/name], [name]Gregor[/name] and [name]Avis[/name] would be my pick. I did think [name]Avice[/name] was a misspelling at first.
Can you come up with a fourth name?
[name]How[/name] about Avisse, Avesse, or [name]Iris[/name]?
Thanks, but itās definitely going to be [name]Avis[/name] or [name]Avice[/name]. [name]Just[/name] wondering which is the original spelling and which is the variant? Which is the most heard of? And most importantly, which spelling flows best with the set? [name]General[/name] impressions of the sibset?
I believe [name]Avis[/name] came before the variant [name]Avice[/name]. I like the spelling [name]Avis[/name] better too. [name]Lorcan[/name], [name]Gregor[/name] and [name]Avis[/name] are different but complementary. You have an Irish, Scottish and Latin name - all unique but usable together in a sibset.
Honestly, [name]Avice[/name] looks too much like avarice. [name]Avis[/name] is nice, though. I love love love both [name]Gregor[/name] and [name]Lorcan[/name]. I donāt really like [name]Avis[/name] with them, but they all have the mysteriousness going for them, so I suppose they work.
Thank you! Can I ask what you mean by mysteriousness?
[name]Hi[/name], Kath!
Honestly, Iām not sure about this. [name]Avis[/name] - well, I like the bird connection, but I keep thinking of the car rental company and then when I see [name]Avice[/name], I think advice. No! So, Iād go [name]Avis[/name] if I had to, but Iām just not entirely sure about it. [name]Don[/name]'t hate me!
As a set, I think the names give off a cool, strong vibe. Itās not too vintage, but it has that flair about it. Each one is unique in look but not terribly unfamiliar in sound, which is a nice balance.
Iād just throw out a couple of [name]Avis[/name] alternatives, just in case, alright? [name]Anais[/name], [name]Aveline[/name], [name]Avia[/name], [name]Avita[/name], [name]Evita[/name], or [name]Eleni[/name]?

I met an [name]Isis[/name] yesterday, what a fabulous name! Is it for you?
I agree with ppās [name]Avis[/name] is the only way to spell but then there is the problem of [name]Avis[/name] Rent A Car.
I prefer [name]Avice[/name] spelling, its more feminine in my opinion, and reminds me of [name]Alice[/name]. Being from the South US, the spelling [name]Avis[/name] looks too hillbilly to me. [name]Lorcan[/name], [name]Gregor[/name] and [name]Avice[/name], they are all certainly very unique names, thatās why i think they go together.
Thanks, [name]Avice[/name] reminds me of [name]Alice[/name], too!
It just occurred to me that you could get a lot of pronunciation issues with [name]Avice[/name]. For those who see it like advice, you might get [ah-VICE] and for those who see it like [name]Alice[/name], you might get [ah-VIS]. [name]Both[/name] are pretty different from [name]Avis[/name] [AY-vis].

[name]Hi[/name], [name]Lemon[/name]
That is a good point which I hadnāt thought of.
What happened to your reply from yesterday, I canāt see it now?
Oh, I donāt know why you canāt see it! Itās on the first page of your thread when I look, but I just copied it below:

The names seems historic and powerful, and like something you would see in myths, legends or fairy tales. I could easily see [name]Lorcan[/name] being in an ancient Irish tale, or [name]Gregor[/name] being a hero in something similar to Grimmās fairy tales. [name]Avis[/name], however, gives me a mixed impression, part one being 1950ās activist-ish, part two being ancient Latin, but I donāt get the meaning ābirdā from it, unless you count the similar letters and sound in aviary. I love that all three names are rare.
Personally, when I hear [name]Avice[/name] I think of avarice or malice. It just evokes a lot of negativity for me. I support [name]Lemon[/name]'s alternatives, and add [name]Avalon[/name] and [name]Ellis[/name].
Also, if you really wanted to go bird, why not just Aves?
Does [name]Avice[/name] sound āoffā with [name]Lorcan[/name] and [name]Gregor[/name] because of its āhardā vowel sound (āAā), where [name]Lorcan[/name] and [name]Gregor[/name] sound softer? I love these three names so much but would love to feel there was fluidity between them, rather than them being three very random sounding names, kind of thrown in together?! If anyone feels that they work, and sound natural and fitting together as a sibset, I would be delighted to hear it! I would hate for [name]Avice[/name] to sound completely unexpected and out of the left field, after L & G. [name]Do[/name] they match in terms of usage/obscurity? To look at it from the other direction, if you met an [name]Avice[/name], could you conceivably envisage her brothers being named [name]Lorcan[/name] and [name]Gregor[/name]? Or would they have entirely different names?.. xx
