Lore

Having watched the movie [name]Lore[/name] a few weeks ago I’m still intrigued by the name (title character’s full name was [name]Hannelore[/name]).

Its a diminutive of names like [name]Eleonore[/name], [name]Hannelore[/name], perhaps even [name]Lorelei[/name]. In Basque it means “flower.”

It can also be viewed as a word name (folktale, legend).

[name]Laura[/name] was popular (still is in some countries). [name]Lorelei[/name] is gaining popularity. So [name]Lore[/name]'s sound isn’t all that unfamiliar.

So what do you think of it berries? [name]Do[/name] you think this diminutive/word name can stand on its own? I personally love it now…It might have been the character though.

Edit: In the movie they pronounce Lore like Lor-uh (German) but there is an English pronunciation as well–Lor.

I like it.
It has that Germanic/Scando feel I love, and it feels like a fresh [name]Laura[/name].

I like the full name [name]Hannelore[/name] with the nn [name]Lore[/name].

I like it, though I love [name]Hannelore[/name] and find [name]Hannelore[/name] nn [name]Lore[/name] more appealing. I think it can stand on its own, but it does feel like a nickname to me. I personally would use it as such; but I wouldn’t think anything of a person whose given name was [name]Lore[/name].

[name]How[/name] was the movie, btw? I hadn’t heard of it but I looked it up when I saw your post.

It was quite good, slow paced but intense. I loved that it took a different perspective when it comes to the aftermath of WWII–focusing on the children of Nazi apologists who were fleeing their home for survival. The cinematography was excellent too.

Did they say it ‘[name]Hannah[/name]-lora’? Because that’s how you’d pronounce it in [name]German[/name]. I like [name]Lore[/name] (said to rhyme with door) as a nickname for [name]Elora[/name].

I didn’t catch the exact pronunciation of [name]Hannelore[/name] since it was only said once at the beginning, but they do pronounce [name]Lore[/name] like Lor-uh.

I’d be a nice nickname. Pronounced the [name]German[/name] way, it sounds nice and could be a nickname but pronounced the English way, to rhyme with door, I don’t care for it.

I’ve met a [name]Lore[/name]. She’s French and I’m not sure whether or not it’s her full name or nn. I think it’s very pretty!

Very pretty, but I have a soft spot for [name]German[/name] names.
