Lori + Linda= Liora? Also, Esme to honor a Cheryl?

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband has two moms- he also has two dads. His parents split up and remarried when he was very very young, so his step parents have always been in his life. He thinks of himself as having four parents.

His mom’s name is [name_f]Lori[/name_f] and his stepmom’s name is [name_f]Linda[/name_f]. What do you think of [name_f]Liora[/name_f] as a smoosh of these two names?

We would also like to honor my mother, whose name is [name_f]Cheryl[/name_f]. We thought of [name_f]Esme[/name_f] for this, since they have the same meaning. We would probably spell it [name_f]Esme[/name_f], since that is the Americanized version. I really do prefer the Esmée spelling, but everyone I know whose names include accents complain all of the time about people screwing the accents up.

What do you think of [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f]?

[name_f]Liora[/name_f] to honor a [name_f]Lori[/name_f] and a [name_f]Linda[/name_f] is pretty ingenious. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f] sounds great to me.

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f] is lovely.

I don’t really like [name_f]Liora[/name_f], but I’m a little picky… Maybe something else along those lines like [name_f]Lionora[/name_f]? I don’t know. Either way, [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is an awesome name!:smiley:

I’d go with [name_f]Esmee[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f], and include the accent on her birth certificate. It’s closer, and at least you’ll have gotten her name right!

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f] is lovely! I think it’s great how you’ve thought of ways to honour family more subtly without actually using their names. [name_f]My[/name_f] mum’s name is [name_f]Cheryl[/name_f] as well, but I’m really not a fan of the name; [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is a lot nicer.

I love it. Either way, Esmée [name_f]Liora[/name_f] or [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f], is lovely. I think [name_f]Liora[/name_f] is a beautiful and creative idea to honor his two moms, and the meaning of [name_f]Esme[/name_f] to honor [name_f]Cheryl[/name_f] is lovely. I love [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_f]Liora[/name_f], I think it is just beautiful.

The combo is a nice tribute to everyone. And while The names aren’t my style I can see why you (and others) like it.

Regarding the accents on [name_f]Esme[/name_f]…my two cents would be if you aren’t [name_m]French[/name_m] or live in a [name_m]French[/name_m] community then don’t do it. :). She will be forever correcting her name.

Wow, [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f] is gorgeous! And how great that it honors so many people at once. Definitely go for it.

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f] is a lovely name for a lovely little girl. I think you’ve made a wonderful choice!

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Liora[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f].

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f] is BEAUTIFUL. [name_u]Love[/name_u], love, love. Seriously, one of my favorite combos I’ve ever heard on NB.

but I love [name_f]Belinda[/name_f] too as a way to honor [name_f]Linda[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] or [name_u]Linden[/name_u] or [name_f]Lindy[/name_f].

Wow, thank you so much to everyone! I am so glad that you didn’t all think this was just nuts and too much of a stretch. We dearly love and want to honor all of our mothers, but their names are just… a little dated is all. Probably our children will be exclaiming over the vintage charm of [name_f]Cheryl[/name_f] and [name_f]Linda[/name_f] and reviving those names.

Thanks for the input on the spelling of Esmée/[name_f]Esme[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband speaks [name_m]French[/name_m] (not as a native, just from school) and likes the proper [name_m]French[/name_m] feminine form, but I just don’t know. I feel like the accent would be a pain.

I love [name_f]Liora[/name_f] (I prefer [name_f]Leora[/name_f] but well, I guess 1 letter isn’t the end of the world), and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is very pretty! I love all the meaning you put into the names. I’ve loved [name_f]Leora[/name_f] since I read The Balloon Tree (a children’s picture book) when I was like 3.

@waverly123
I like [name_f]Leora[/name_f], too, but I wanted to use the [name_f]Liora[/name_f] spelling so that the “Li” of [name_f]Linda[/name_f] was in there, if that makes any sense.

@boyandgirl

I like [name_f]Liora[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] too, but our son’s name is [name_m]Levin[/name_m] and I didn’t want their names to start with the same letter.

@strawberryicecream7

Oh, I really like [name_f]Lionora[/name_f], too!

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f] is divine.

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f] is beautiful. It works so well together and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_m]Levin[/name_m] are nice together too.

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f] is just perfect.

What an awesome idea! I adore both names, [name_f]Liora[/name_f] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] so I think it is such a great idea! [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f] is gorgeous. I would agree with what you said and spell it the American-ised way so the pronunciation is right.
