Lottie as a nickname for Lorelei?

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband LOVES the name [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] for our little girl. I like it enough, but since it’s technically a nickname, I’m worried about how it will grow with her. I’m not a fan of the more common long names for [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] (Charlotte, [name_f]Carlotta[/name_f], [name_f]Loretta[/name_f], etc.) We both really like the name [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] could make sense and a nickname for [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]? We both think it can work, but want other opinions.

Perhaps with a t middle name?

I agree that it makes perfect sense with a T middle… otherwise, I find it a stretch. [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Tiana[/name_f] “Lottie”? Makes perfect sense. [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Amara[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]? I would be scratching my head.

I like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], but can’t really see me with a Charlotte… [name_f]Violet[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is on my list, though, which I find wonderfully inventive but maybe it’s really not THAT impressive. I think [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] would work really well, too, if you want other ideas beyond [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Loretta[/name_f]. I think you could honestly just use [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], too; it’s one of a very few number of nns I can see standing alone as a first name.

Good luck!

Yes! Love it

It’s not intuitive, but it’s not terrible either.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Colette[/name_f]? [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Colette[/name_f] makes sense to me. [name_f]My[/name_f] other suggestion is to use [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] as her middle name; your husband can still call her by that name that way.

[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is a great name, and [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], but its not the first nickname that comes to mind… Maybe with a T middle name to connect them together?

I would suggest the nn [name_f]Lorie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lollie[/name_f] for [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f].
Maybe [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]? Again the T issue, but it does have a similar sound with the D in [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]?

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]?

It’s not intuitive and might not stick as a result. A T middle might make it more successful tho

Thanks everyone for the feedback so far! The issue with anything that ends in -otte, -ette, -et, is that it’s the same sound at the end of our last name, so it doesn’t flow well. I like the way Ottlilie sounds, but I’m worried kids would call her Oddity or Oddly to be mean. (Am I over thinking this?) I like the idea of a T middle name, but wouldn’t want it to feel forced. Any suggestions there?

As others have mentioned, with a T middle name, I think it could work

Lorelei Tabitha
Lorelei Teagan
Lorelei Tilly
Lorelei Tamar
Lorelei Tanwen
Lorelei Tiana
Lorelei Talia
Lorelei Talullah
Lorelei Tamsin
Lorelei Tansy

If [name_u]Rory[/name_u] can be a nickname for [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], then I think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] can too. They both have sounds in there, maybe a T middle would make it more intuitive but I wouldn’t say it is too much of a stretch.

I think it works fine no need for arbitrary T middle name. You cant know if everyone will use it or if she will like it though. You may get [name_u]Lorrie[/name_u] or [name_f]Lora[/name_f] eventually too. As long as you don’t mind that…

I think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is beautiful and like it for [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] ! I also like [name_f]Lollie[/name_f]!

[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] would be my suggestion for a T middle name

It’s a stretch but i think you could make it work!

If it feels natural and suits your child, it works.

[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_u]Taylor[/name_u]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_u]Tilden[/name_u]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Tasha[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_u]Tatum[/name_u]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_u]Teal[/name_u]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Terra[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Therese[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Thaddea[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Thallo[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f]

It’s a bit of a stretch, but not impossible. I do agree that with a T middle name, it could work.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I’ve never thought of this, but I like it! It feels fairly natural to me. In similar fashioned, I could maybe see [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]? [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] feels even more natural actually, but [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is a beautiful name & another option.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

I really like it, but I also agree w others that maybe using a t middle name would be better. I really like [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Theodosia[/name_f]!

If you and your husband both loved it, I’d encourage you to go for just [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]! I think it would age well and I’m definitely a proponent of using your favorite name on the birth certificate, even if it’s a “nickname name”. That said, it sounds like maybe you’re not 100% sold on [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] in general? So in this case I think using it as a nickname for a longer name you love could be a good compromise. To that end, I do think [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] works! It’s not the most intuitive, and I do think you’d get the occasional puzzled look. But if you don’t mind putting in a little extra work to get the nickname to stick, I don’t see any issue with it! For whatever reason, a “T” middle name really would help solidify this one for me. In practice it might not make much difference, since most people wouldn’t know her middle name, but it would be an easy explanation of the nickname if you wanted one. [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Tess[/name_f], maybe? [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f]? Good luck!!
