Lately I’ve been really loving both of these as nns for [name]Charlotte[/name], but I can’t seem to decide. I know [name]Lola[/name] is more of a stretch, but I don’t find it any less usable than [name]Lottie[/name]. (My family thinks they’re equally weird nicknames, so I really don’t have a problem with either stemming from [name]Charlotte[/name]…) Which do you prefer? Can they both be used together? I don’t mind having multiple nns (I can see myself using both [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Livy[/name]/[name]Liv[/name] for [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Annie[/name]/[name]Hannelore[/name]/[name]Annora[/name]/etc. for [name]Hannah[/name] [name]Lenore[/name], etc.), but [name]Lola[/name] and [name]Lottie[/name] both feel quite different–I wouldn’t want to give my poor child identity issues.
I think you could use both while she’s little and let her grow into one or choose to use both when she’s older. Personally I love [name]Lola[/name] and find [name]Lottie[/name] a little annoying I guess. I think too once you have your little [name]Charlotte[/name] it will be more clear if she’s a [name]Lola[/name] or a [name]Lottie[/name] or just [name]Charlotte[/name]. I would just plan for both and decide later. She maybe [name]Lottie[/name] when she’s little, [name]Lola[/name] as a teenager, and [name]Charlotte[/name] as an adult and then you’d get to use all three
I quite like [name]Lola[/name] for [name]Charlotte[/name] too and don’t think it’s that much of a stretch. But if you feel you have to pick just one, go with [name]Lottie[/name]! [name]Lottie[/name] has such a lovely vintage kick to it and… I just love it [name]IMO[/name], they are fine being used together as they’re not all that dissimilar, both beginning with ‘Lo’. I’m sure most kids can tell the diffference between their nicknames. However, if I ever have a little [name]Alexander[/name], he’d go by [name]Alec[/name], [name]Santo[/name], Hicca, [name]Anders[/name] and ‘Oi, you little bugger’. It’ll confuse the hell out of him
They give off two completely different vibes to me. [name]Lottie[/name] is sweet, down-to-earth and girly. [name]Lola[/name] is sensual, sultry and womanly. It depends on what image you’re most comfortable giving your daughter.
Thanks, ladies! I love the idea of keeping both [name]Lola[/name] and [name]Lottie[/name], and seeing which fits her (if I ever get to use it!). Besides, with time, I imagine one will grow on me more than the other.
@mischa - that’s one hesitation I have with [name]Lola[/name]–the sexual/sultry image. I personally don’t see it that way–the only real association I have with it is an adorable little girl I met years ago with blond pigtails and a heartbreaker grin and twinkling blue eyes whose name was [name]Lola[/name]. She made it hard to see it as sexual or sultry at all. And quite frankly, I’ve avoided the [name]Lolita[/name] and the song by The Kinks because I don’t want to ruin my innocent, adorable, pure image of a sweet little [name]Lola[/name]. I honestly can see me with either. I had also been tossing around the idea of using one for [name]Charlotte[/name] and one for [name]Violet[/name], but both [name]Lottie[/name] and [name]Lola[/name] seem like quite a stretch for [name]Violet[/name] (although [name]Lottie[/name] seems less so).
