I really love the nn [name]Lottie[/name]/[name]Lotta[/name] at the moment, but I’m not sold on [name]Charlotte[/name]. I feel as if I should love it because it’s a very pretty, classic name with lots of history and literary credibility, plus an array of great nicknames, but I just can’t. I think I’ve known too many as it is very popular where I live.
Anyway, I’ve tried looking for alternatives that will still get me to [name]Lottie[/name]/[name]Lotta[/name] and the only ones I can come up with are [name]Carlotta[/name] and [name]Lieselotte[/name]. I’ve considered [name]Carlotta[/name] before and have played around with it on my long list but it doesn’t seem right to me. I really like it but it feels strange seeing as I have no Italian heritage or connections whatsoever. I actually love [name]Lieselotte[/name] and I have Austrian/[name]German[/name] roots but I’m not sure how useable it is. It seems a bit childish to work in the real world.
So, my questions are- any suggestions for names with the potential nn [name]Lottie[/name] or [name]Lotta[/name], and do you think [name]Lieselotte[/name] could work in real life?
Haha I’d actually thought of Camelot in my searches, but I think that’s one that’s always destined to be firmly on the GP list. I know what you mean about people assuming a [name]Lottie[/name] would be called [name]Charlotte[/name], but I figured that as long as [name]Lottie[/name] came fairly naturally from her actual name, once they were corrected they wouldn’t question it too much.
Maybe Lotis, [name]Clotilda[/name], [name]Sharlotta[/name], [name]Melilot[/name]? Sorry, those suggestions aren’t too good, but I think [name]Lottie[/name] is one of those more exclusive nicknames only a few names can pull off. [name]Lottie[/name]/[name]Lotta[/name] can also be used as a first name by itself, if you are willing to consider it.
Thanks I’d considered [name]Melilot[/name], it looks quite pretty but is a bit of a mouthful and fairly out there. Any thoughts on [name]Lieselotte[/name]?
I agree with [name]Lieselotte[/name] being a mouthful. It sounds a bit clunky in my opinion- [name]Liesel[/name] and [name]Lotte[/name] squished together. Also, it isn’t the prettiest looking name I’ve seen. Honestly, I think [name]Lottie[/name] itself is the prettiest option
[name]How[/name] about [name]Scarlett[/name], I know a girl with that name and her nickname is [name]Lottie[/name]. But with my accent I usually pronounce [name]Scarlett[/name] as SCAR-LOT. Or how about [name]Loretta[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Juliette[/name] or even [name]Lolita[/name] (But that name is quite out there!)
Here are some that don’t necessarily sound like [name]Lottie[/name] or [name]Lotta[/name], but you could use them as at a strech;
I love [name]Lottie[/name]! I personally love [name]Charlotte[/name] as a way to get to it, but I think Lieslotte/[name]Lieselotte[/name] totally works. I also like Hannelotte and [name]Violet[/name] as other options.
[name]Lieselotte[/name] was originally a contracted form, I believe, of [name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] ([name]Liese[/name] being a nickname for [name]Elisabeth[/name], and [name]Lotte[/name] for [name]Charlotte[/name]). If [name]Charlotte[/name]'s not quite to your liking, is [name]Elisabeth[/name]/[name]Elizabeth[/name]? I think a nickname based on the middle is not so strange, particularly if you call her [name]Lieselotte[/name] as a pet name around the house and then [name]Lottie[/name] outside the house. [name]Elisabeth[/name]/[name]Elizabeth[/name] has so many nicknames already, [name]Lottie[/name] isn’t that big a stretch, especially with [name]Charlotte[/name] as the middle. [name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] is maybe a mildly tame combo, but also quite classy and elegant.
My own daydreaming has included a [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name], I think those names combine well, and I’ve imagined using [name]Lottie[/name] as a nn for that combo, since it starts with Lo and all. [name]Feel[/name] free to use (or the idea, [name]Lola[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] could maybe get the same thing) if you like.
Thank you so much for all the brilliant ideas everyone I agree that [name]Lottie[/name] could probably stand on its own, but it wouldn’t really fit in with the rest of my list (mainly fairly long names with shorter nicknames). I love the idea of -let names nn [name]Lottie[/name] but I’m not sure it would work with my accent. I tend to pronounce it more as -luht than -lot. Definitely something to consider though.
@ashthedreamer- I [name]LOVE[/name] Hannelotte! It’s stunning. [name]Do[/name] you prefer it to/think it would work better than [name]Lieselotte[/name]?
@jesba- [name]Elizabeth[/name]/[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] is beautiful, [name]Charlotte[/name] is growing on me as a mn. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Elizabeth[/name]/[name]Louisa[/name] Hannelotte nn [name]Lottie[/name] could work in a similar way?
[name]Glad[/name] it’s helpful! I think you will get there : D! Yes, I definitely think [name]Elizabeth[/name] Hannelotte or [name]Louisa[/name] Hannelotte could work as well!
I don’t think [name]Lieselotte[/name] would work too well in an English-speaking country because in print it looks too much like ‘Lies a lot.’ Good luck in finding a name you love.
@everwaiteing- Very good point about [name]Lieselotte[/name] looking like “Lies a lot”, I hadn’t thought of that. Thanks for pointing that out I’m now leaning more towards Hannelotte.
@namespy- [name]Ottilie[/name] is just beautiful, definitely an option.
