First of all, I say that’s not for my baby on the way because we have almost decided on her name. So if you like to help only parents naming their child-to-be, feel free to skip this post.
Recently I noticed people started using nicknames on it own. I love the idea because there are so many wonderful nickname that do no need to be a short form of something. I’ve heard [name]Evie[/name], [name]Lulu[/name], [name]Nellie[/name], [name]Hattie/name) and [name]Lottie[/name]. The latter one made me think seriously. I really love [name]Lottie[/name] on its own but only can imagine in on a child or a young woman, not a grown-up or a old lady. Maybe that’s because I don’t know any Lotties but I wonder : what do you think of using [name]Lottie[/name] as a full name? And could you think of some names that can be shortened to [name]Lottie[/name](besides [name]Charlotte[/name])?
I actually like the idea of [name]Lottie[/name] by itself. I think it is one of the few nickname names that ages well.
Full name ideas: [name]Carlotta[/name], [name]Loretta[/name], or [name]Lotus[/name]
I think it can be quite cute, and I rather use [name]Lottie[/name] on its own than say, [name]Lulu[/name]. Still, my top preference is using it as a nickname for names like [name]Carlotta[/name], Lieslotte, [name]Lotus[/name], Otillie, [name]Loretta[/name] (off the top of my head).
I actually do see [name]Lottie[/name] on an old woman, as well as on a young child/teen. It’s just on a grown-up I have trouble seeing it. It is not a horrible name though, and I think there are people who could pull it off. I think it would be better as a nn for any of these names,
[name]Colette[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Loretta[/name]
[name]Carlota[/name]
I’m sure there are more, but these are the names I thought of right away, to go with [name]Lottie[/name]
[name]Love[/name] love love [name]Lottie[/name]! Think it’s great as a nn for [name]Carlotta[/name] or [name]Loretta[/name].
Here in [name]England[/name] this has been very popular for a long time. I adore [name]Lottie[/name]; I know [name]Lottie[/name] & [name]Kitty[/name] sisters. I can only think of [name]Lotta[/name] really, and that’s cute. [name]Loretta[/name] is pretty, but I’ve watched too much [name]Monty[/name] Python not to laugh when I hear the name.
Thank you ladies.
@ottilie: I have read [name]Lottie[/name] is popular(in one of the blogs, maybe) but its rarely heard in my area. Though I think it’s a nickname for [name]Charlotte[/name] here.
I love your suggestions of [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Loretta[/name]. In [name]Russia[/name], they use [name]Charlotta[/name] instead of [name]Charlotte[/name] pronounced “shur-lott-uh” and I like this one too but I am afraid everybody will misread this so it’s out.
[name]Lottie[/name] is such a cute name. I like this nn with the full name [name]Carlotta[/name].
Although I think [name]Lottie[/name] is a stand alone name. The name [name]Lotte[/name] is quite popular in some European countries like Belgium & The Netherlands.
Lotteis interesting, thank you.
OH and I plan on using [name]Lottie[/name] if we have a daughter. We will be honoring a [name]Charlotte[/name] but will use [name]Lottie[/name] as a full name all on its own. I [name]LOVE[/name] it!
