Lottie?

Does sweet, vintage, sassy [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] stand on her own as a standalone name?

I think since [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is so often used as a nickname for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], I can think of it as that more than its own name. However, names like Allie/Callie/Hallie, Maddie/Mattie, [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] all feel like its own name to me.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] curious as to other thoughts and opinions on [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]? TIA!

I think it definitely works! Iā€™ve never actually met a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] ā€” most of the ones I know go by [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] or just [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] feels sweet, fun, & sassy, and I can picture her on someone of any age!

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is lovely!

Definitely works as a standalone name I actually know a few children named just [name_f]Lottie[/name_f].

To be honest, I would recommend using the full [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] by itself feels a bit insubstantial, a bit childish, and no other nickname options if she grows out of [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. I know of a just [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] who wishes her name was [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] now that sheā€™s older because [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] feels a bit juvenile for her. I would highly recommend [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] on the birth certificate, and [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] on preferred name forms so that she can go by [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], but if it doesnā€™t suit her or she grows out of it, sheā€™s got [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] to fall back on. [name_m]Just[/name_m] my two cents!

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is so sweet! I love it on its own, I think it can definitely be substantial as a stand-alone name. Iā€™ve met a couple Lottieā€™s, but Iā€™m not sure if their full name was [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or just [name_f]Lottie[/name_f].

Might get a lot of people assuming itā€™s short for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] but I think it can stand on its own.

I definitely think it can stand alone! In the US, Iā€™ve never heard it as a shortened version of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], so I think of it on itā€™s own. I think itā€™s cute, and I can picture an adult with either name easily  SJ Strumā€™s sister has a [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] :cherry_blossom:

I think it is awesome. One of my favourite ā€œsweet nicknameā€ names

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite nn for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] anyways.

I think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is perfectly lovely as a stand-alone name! I know a little [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] whoā€™s named after her mother (Charlotte) which I think is so pretty. As [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], etc. can stand as names all on their ownā€¦ why not [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]? I love it! :lollipop:

I also want to mention [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] as a full name for [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]! Again, I donā€™t think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] needs a long form to workā€¦ but I love mentioning this amazing idea for a long form a friend of mine introduced me to. :relaxed:

It works. I would still recommend [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or another name it could be a nickname for. [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] can feel a bit childish in my opinion. I know a [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] who preferred [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] as an adult.

I think so - Iā€™ve met a couple of ā€˜justā€™ Lotties.

(Iā€™ll add this is a UK perspective where it ranks at #51 as a standalone)

I know a toddler [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] who just goes by [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. I think its charming as a nickname. Maybe just ok as standalone. Im in the southern US for perspective.

@snowmaiden love the [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] suggestion!

@Greyblue I didnā€™t realize it was that popular as a stand-alone in the UK. Have read that now on the main site.

I know of a few little Charlotteā€™s, none of which go by [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. I actually know of no Lottieā€™s, thatā€™s in the southern US. We have multiple Charlesā€™ and a [name_f]Lolita[/name_f] in the family tree, thought this sort of checked all those boxes, but it may be a whole lot more common than I thought!

Ooh, thatā€™s a nice way to subtly honour family while also giving her a name of her own! (And Elliott nn Lottie from @snowmaiden is so cool!)

Yes, Iā€™ve lived in [name_u]Texas[/name_u] and now in the [name_u]West[/name_u], and I also have yet to hear of a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] that goes by [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] here, so Iā€™m thinking it must be more of a non-US thing. Most are [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] or just [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. We wonā€™t have the USā€™s 2022 name data for another couple months, but it looks like [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is not in the top 1000 names for 2021 across the nation, so it sounds like it would be a rare gem  Iā€™m not sure if the [name_u]South[/name_u] is different, but thatā€™s nationwide at least.

Iā€™d say go for it! [name_u]Super[/name_u] cute, especially since you have related names in your family tree :deciduous_tree:

Good insight, thanks so much! It may be a US versus non-US difference on the frequency of it!
