Lou or Ada…

Ok, you may have seen some of my previous posts during all the refinement rounds to get to here lol.
I am expecting my second girl at the end of August. I currently have a 1 year old daughter, named Leni Bloom, and she and the baby will be just 14 months apart.
My husband and I have landed on two full names (first + middle) we like, but cannot decide.

The first is Lou Frances. We love Lou for a girl. It was on our list with the first pregnancy but we preferred Leni. Now that we have Leni, we realize that Leni and Lou is very cute together and in its own way a bit matchy, however I’m quite attached and feel kinda sad if I think about letting go of this name. We think it’s super confident and unusual, but also very darling.

The second is Ada James. AJ a possible nickname amongst friends and fam. Ada was once our top pick name. This was before I was ever pregnant, and then once I got pregnant with Leni I suddenly felt it was a bit too vintage, so nixed it. Now I’ve circled back and think it’s really lovely. I know that James is very controversial when used for a girl (as I’ve come to recently learn via feedback lol), but we think it gives a really strong, contemporary vibe to this name that stands up nicely next to Leni Bloom.

We aren’t super inclined to change our names or the variations. I’ve had a few people suggest Ada Lou, but that feels much too Dr Seuss for me lol. We also aren’t TRYING to match the names. Some people have suggested Lou Goldie or Lou Summer, etc, to reflect Leni Bloom. We want them to be their own people and if we went with Lou, the only similarity would be picking two names that start with L- nothing more, nothing less.

So with all that said, please share your vote for either Lou Frances or Ada James :sunflower::sparkles::hatching_chick:

I don’t like [name_u]Lou[/name_u] - just [name_m]Lew[/name_m] or [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] for a boy.

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u]! [name_u]Lou[/name_u] seems too close to [name_f]Leni[/name_f], as when I think of the names together my brain automatically jumps to [name_f]Leni[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u] as a double barrel name, rather than [name_f]Leni[/name_f] and [name_u]Lou[/name_u] as sisters.

They are both so sweet!! I would take both to the delivery and then decide once you meet her. I don’t know who would give you a bad feeling towards [name_u]James[/name_u] as middle. I love it , It is a family name for our family so I have several nieces with [name_u]James[/name_u] as a middle. :heartpulse: :heartpulse:

I prefer [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u] :tulip:

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] is lovely she’s bright, spunky and energetic. I think [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is very sweet and sounds lovely with [name_f]Leni[/name_f]. I also think [name_u]James[/name_u] is a fab middle name for [name_f]Ada[/name_f] definitely provides a modern feel and I think the overall name sounds straight out of a storybook. I think [name_f]Leni[/name_f] + [name_f]Ada[/name_f] are such a pair of sweethearts. Whereas even though [name_u]Lou[/name_u] is fun I think paired with [name_f]Leni[/name_f] it’s a bit too matchy I also feel you could get pigeonholed into a theme if you were to have more children.

I know you’ve said that you don’t want to switch up the combinations but I just had to add that I would do [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Lou[/name_u]. You seem really attached to [name_u]Lou[/name_u], it’s a privilege to name a child and I wouldn’t want you to leave a name behind unnecessarily. Personally I do not see the Dr Seuss connection I think [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u] works but having [name_u]James[/name_u] sandwiched in the middle seems to elevate [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u]. Anyways that’s just my thoughts

Wishing you all the best

This is tough because you obviously have big feelings for [name_u]Lou[/name_u], so my gut is that you should pick [name_u]Lou[/name_u] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]!

If I was being purely objective and stylistic, I’d go with [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u]. [name_f]Leni[/name_f] [name_f]Bloom[/name_f] (adorable) is so spunky, creative and contemporary and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] just feels a little overly traditional next to her. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] captures that same vintage feel as [name_f]Frances[/name_f] but with a bit more pep, and then you’ve got the lovely twist of [name_u]James[/name_u] on a girl (which, frankly, I think it’s ridiculous people have given you bad feedback over, it’s definitely having a moment rn so not too ‘out there’ plus it lends a really cool vibe to pretty much any girl’s first name imho!).

Thank you for this :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I loved your input. Ya the response on [name_u]James[/name_u] surprised me! I’ve encountered far more unusual names than [name_u]James[/name_u], but the opinion seemed pretty consistent, spare with a handful of those who were totally on board. Either way it hasn’t deterred us.

I’m leaning towards [name_f]Ada[/name_f] :speak_no_evil:
