Louis... Do you automatically think Louie or Lewis pronunciation???

We want to use the name [name_m]Louis[/name_m] with the pronunciation [name_m]Louie[/name_m]. [name_m]How[/name_m] do we convey that? Or do people usually just assume that?
Or do you just assume it’s kouis with a hard 's???

Help!!!

I go either way! I also love the [name_m]Louie[/name_m] pronunciation, but I think many may pronounce it with an S, which is why I switched the spelling on my list to [name_m]Louie[/name_m]. But I feel like if you tell your family and friends, it won’t be an issue. And in school, once he introduces himself, I don’t see it being an issue. I feel like some will pronounce it with the S and others will say [name_m]Louie[/name_m], but if it doesn’t bother you to make a few corrections, then you should be fine. The only sure way to avoid mispronunciation is to name him [name_m]Louie[/name_m], but it also depends on how people pronounce things where you live and what the “normal” pronunciation is of [name_m]Louis[/name_m] in your town/city/country! I hope this helps, and good luck!

[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]! But that’s how my dad’s name, [name_m]Louis[/name_m], is pronounced. He’s lived on the [name_u]West[/name_u] Coast his whole life, there may be different preferences in other regions. I think I only remember someone trying to call him “louie” a couple times in my hearing.

I automatically assume [name_m]Louis[/name_m] is said the [name_m]French[/name_m] way, like [name_m]Louie[/name_m]. But I usually end up having to modify, because most people here say [name_m]Louis[/name_m] like [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]. If I wanted LOO-iss, I would spell it [name_m]Lewis[/name_m], and I do slightly prefer [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] to [name_m]Louis[/name_m] right now, but I do like both a lot. At the beginning, you might have to say, “Oh, it’s spelled like St. [name_m]Louis[/name_m], but pronounced the [name_m]French[/name_m] way.” Or something like that. Hopefully others will catch on in time!

I guess you could go straight to [name_m]Louie[/name_m], but I think [name_m]Louis[/name_m] looks so much more dashing and classy. [name_m]Louis[/name_m] legitimately has Loo-ee as a pronunciation, so why not take advantage of it? I think [name_m]Louis[/name_m] prn. loo-ee is brilliant.

I would say [name_m]Louie[/name_m].
But the spelling [name_m]Louie[/name_m] looks kind of made-up and breaks all the history, roots and french charm of [name_m]Louis[/name_m].

I always assume [name_m]Louis[/name_m] is [name_m]Louie[/name_m]. Either spelling is fine though I like [name_m]Louis[/name_m] better. I’m in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f] if that matters on region.

This is my father, older brother and late great-grandfather’s name. I’ve only ever heard it pronounced with the S (well, in history class when they would bring up the many [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Louis[/name_m], I thought they were saying it wrong). [name_m]Louie[/name_m] (loo-ee) is a nickname, in my experience (it is for these guys in my family).

When i see louis i think loo-ee. It rarely occurs to me that it could be pronounced loo-iss. To me that would be spelt [name_m]Lewis[/name_m].

[name_m]Louie[/name_m] 100%

Always [name_m]Louie[/name_m].
If it were Loo-iss, I’d spell it [name_m]Lewis[/name_m].

I always pronounce [name_m]Louis[/name_m] like [name_m]Lewis[/name_m].

I think of [name_m]Louis[/name_m] as pronounced [name_m]Louie[/name_m] as well

I say [name_m]Louis[/name_m] like LOO-ie. Not sure if it’s an English thing, but I’m pretty sure that most people in my area would say the same thing - I’ve never heard of [name_m]Louis[/name_m] being LOO-iss.

I automatically assume [name_m]Louie[/name_m]. If you want to be sure, you can just use [name_m]Louie[/name_m] though. But I would never pronounce [name_m]Louis[/name_m] as [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] myself, unless corrected. I honestly don’t see it being an issue.

Because of [name_m]Louis[/name_m] in One Direction who pronounces it [name_m]Louie[/name_m], I would automatically assume [name_m]Louie[/name_m]. But I think it could really go either way. I definitely prefer [name_m]Louie[/name_m] to [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] pronunciations though!

I’d pronounce it like [name_m]Lewis[/name_m].

I’d pronounce it [name_m]Louie[/name_m] for sure - but then again I’m in [name_f]England[/name_f] so maybe the European pronunciation is more common here. If someone was pronouncing [name_m]Louis[/name_m] as ‘[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]’ in the UK, I would just think they were doing it wrong lol. To me, [name_m]Louis[/name_m] and [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] are two completely different names.

I’d pronounce it as [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]. I don’t see how a ‘s’ ending would be [name_m]Louie[/name_m] sorry ^^;;

[name_m]Louie[/name_m] - because of a family member who pronounces it this way I would just "ass"ume.

I think [name_m]Louie[/name_m]. Mainly because I know of three [name_m]Louis[/name_m]’ who pronounce it like that.
