Louisa?

What do you think of [name]Louisa[/name]?

I love it. I love that it’s classic and familiar, but relatively uncommon. It’s ladylike, but has the tomboyish [name]Lou[/name] and the spunky [name]Lulu[/name] as nicknames. It sounds great with our last name (one syllable, starts with B). And I think that [name]Oliver[/name] (our son’s name) and [name]Louisa[/name] are a great pair. [name]Andrew[/name], my husband, says it reminds him of The Sound of [name]Music[/name] (which he hasn’t seen since elementary school…) but acknowledges that it’s a really good option for us. I think he actually likes it more than he lets on.

The one concern I have is popularity/trendiness. I know [name]Louisa[/name] isn’t ranked in the US, which is great (we plan on moving back to the US at some point). But is there any chance it’s rising quickly and will be heading to the top anytime soon? Also, does anyone know the popularity of [name]Louisa[/name] in [name]England[/name]? We live in [name]London[/name] but we really don’t know very many babies or people with babies.

I’d love your feedback!

Thanks!

[name]Kate[/name] (and [name]Andrew[/name])

First of all, I love [name]Louisa[/name]. It’s always sounded so much funner than [name]Louise[/name]. All of the qualities you listed above are great reasons to chose it. I tried looking up the popularity in [name]England[/name], but there’s not a lot there. What I could tell, it’s not that popular. Since it’s not popular here are there, I wouldn’t see it as a problem.
I don’t think that [name]Louisa[/name] is rising too much. To a lot of people it’s still an “old-lady name.” But I’m glad that you’re considering using it. I thin it’s a great name.

I looked it up in some European countries. Apparently it’s only super popular in Germany (#21), not in the Top 100 in [name]England[/name], not in [name]France[/name].

So I’d say you’re good!

[name]Love[/name] that name! [name]Hope[/name] you decide to use it!!

I love it. It’s familiar, yet not used a lot.

I’d be so happy to meet a little [name]Louisa[/name]!

Definitely use it, and it goes great with [name]Oliver[/name].

I love [name]Louisa[/name] too and hope you pick it. [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Louisa[/name] make a great sibset!

I love it, Personally, I much prefer it to [name]Louise[/name].
My grandmother’s name is [name]Louisa[/name], she mostly goes by [name]Louie[/name], which is a cute spunky, yet still endearing, boyish NN.
I think [name]Louisa[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] are a perfect sibset.

Thank you all for the feedback! It’s very encouraging to see how positive a reception [name]Louisa[/name] is getting. And I’m very happy to hear that [name]Louisa[/name] isn’t too popular in the UK.

To me, [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Louisa[/name] look really good together (however weird that sounds) - maybe it’s the repeated letters? Anyway, I’m loving [name]Louisa[/name]. Now I just have to convince [name]Andrew[/name]. Wish me luck!

[name]Kate[/name]

I really and truly love it. Such a wonderful name! Good luck convincing your husband…he must have had to watch Sound of [name]Music[/name] several times to make that association! It’s not like she’s the main character or anything, and it’s certainly not a bad association.

claireelise - He’s the youngest of 5 (the only boy!) and his sisters, who were very into music and theatre when they were young, loved to subject their baby brother to their favorite movies. So yes, he’s seen The Sound of [name]Music[/name] (and many other musicals) many, many times. And he’s a better man for it! Ha. But no, it’s certainly not a bad association.

I think that [name]Louisa[/name] is ablsolutely gorgeous! I have been considering this name for awhile too, I’m still not sure if it is the right name for me, but I think that it fits perfectly with your son’s name! You should definately go with [name]Louisa[/name]. Also I have heard [name]Lucy[/name] used as a nickname with [name]Louisa[/name] a lot recently, just another thing you might like to consider! Good luck

I love [name]Louisa[/name]! It does remind me of The Sound of [name]Music[/name], which is one of my fav all-time movies! I would love to meet a little baby [name]Louisa[/name]. The nickname [name]Lulu[/name] is adorable. [name]Hope[/name] you go with it!

[name]Love[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]! We have friends who recently named one of their twins [name]Louisa[/name]. They call her [name]Lou[/name] for short.

[name]Just[/name] wanted to echo everyone else’s sentiments- LOOOVE [name]Louisa[/name]! And growing up, I always thought the actress who played [name]Louisa[/name] in The Sound of [name]Music[/name] was so pretty!

I love [name]Louisa[/name], and think it sounds great with [name]Oliver[/name] too. It also reminds me of The Sound of [name]Music[/name], in a good way! I think it may get a little more popular here in the US, but I don’t think it’s going to see wild popularity. It feels like a nameberry-popular name, rather than a masses-popular name, if you know what I mean.

Great! Thanks for the feedback everyone!

[name]Andrew[/name] said that he really likes it, but there are other names he’d like to consider and doesn’t want to commit yet. But I’m sure if I hold my ground I can convince him that [name]Louisa[/name] is perfect for us.

@southernmama - Twins! Wow! Out of curiosity, what did they name [name]Louisa[/name]'s twin?

Thanks,

[name]Kate[/name]

My [name]Beatrix[/name] was almost a [name]Louisa[/name]. I loved [name]Lulu[/name] so much as a potential nickname. The only thing that dissuaded me was that [name]Louisa[/name] Musgrove annoyed me to pieces in my favorite book Perusasion by [name]Jane[/name] [name]Austen[/name]. But i still love it. If my daughter were ever to have a sister, I would absolutely use it.

His name is [name]Benjamin[/name]. They have another, even younger, baby now named [name]Susannah[/name]. I think they have great taste in names.
