My grandmothers middle name was [name_f]Louise[/name_f], however [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] sounds more ‘with the times’. My husband likes the tailored [name_f]Louise[/name_f] better, where [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] sounds more pretty to me.
What do you think of each name? Much the same? Very different?
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] makes me think of [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_u]Alcott[/name_u], the author of “[name_m]Little[/name_m] Women.”
[name_f]Louise[/name_f] sounds more business oriented.
I like both, but I prefer [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. It sounds elegant without being frilly. [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is more down to earth and looks a bit less feminine to me (that’s not a bad thing).
I prefer [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. It’s softer and more elegant to me. I’m not keen on the “eez” sound at the end of [name_f]Louise[/name_f], plus it’s a pretty common “mum name” here in the UK, and was every second girl’s middle name in my class at school.
I have a little [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and people have been so complimentary of it! At times people confuse it with [name_f]Louise[/name_f] but it just takes one correction. [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is lovely as well, I think the feel is a bit more serious. They both come with the cute nn’s [name_u]Lou[/name_u] and [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] though!
As someone with the middle name [name_f]Louise[/name_f], I can say I always wished it was [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] (or anything else). I really didn’t like the “wheeze” sound, which is part of why I went with [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] over [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] for DD1.
[name_f]Louise[/name_f] to me feels smart, trim, and Parisian. I think of city streets and perfectly-done nails, and somebody who is meticulous, stylish, and perfectionistic.
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] to me feels elegant, womanly, and antique. I picture a curly-haired lady living rurally. She is more scatter-brained and more warm-hearted than [name_f]Louise[/name_f].
