I was digging through Ancestry and found that my 3rd Great- Grandmother was named [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f]. She went on to have a daughter whom she named [name_u]Lou[/name_u] [name_f]Ada[/name_f], who went on to have a daughter named [name_f]Juanita[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]. I’m a little obsessed with [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] and wish I knew the story behind it. She was born and died in Iowa and none of her relatives were from [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] as far as I can tell.
I don’t think I would use it as a first name, but love the idea of using it as a middle or putting a spin on it such as [name_u]Lou[/name_u] or [name_u]Louise[/name_u] like my other great grandmothers to carry on the tradition.
Funny story is that my mom and grandmother both have the middle name [name_u]Jean[/name_u] which my mom swore came from her grandmother (Juanita Louise) and went on and on about how she broke tradition giving me the middle name [name_u]Marie[/name_u]. I told her about Louise/Louisiana/Lou and she said had she known she would have gone with [name_u]Louise[/name_u] instead of [name_u]Marie[/name_u]!
[name_u]Louise[/name_u] [name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_u]Lou[/name_u] [name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_u]Lou[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]
[name_f]Luann[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] (king of the hill vibes)
[name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] [name_u]Marie[/name_u]
I really like [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] ‘Lou’ [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]! And I think [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] is so cool!
I actually love [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f]! I know of a [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and they call her [name_u]Louie[/name_u] [name_u]Jo[/name_u]. So cute!
I do love [name_u]Louise[/name_u] as well and it fits well in the middle spot. And [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] from your list is gorgeous. But…I think you should go for it with [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f]! The family connection is just too cool.
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] is really sweet! [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] “Louie Jean” could also be a good option for you.
I love [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f]! I think with a family name as fabulous and distinctive as [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f], it seems a shame to pass up the chance to use it in full. It really sings with a short, sweet first like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
Honestly [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] is awesome and I would use [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] in the middle name spot. [name_m]Just[/name_m] go for it!!! [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] is awesome
From your list I think [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] would work well as would [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] is special but I want to use [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] just doesn’t work. In regards to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] I’ve never been a fan of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] really but [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is beautiful.
Have you thought of using two middle names? Maybe [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] with a short first name I think that would be lovely and would be a lovely namesake honouring your mom/grandmother.
I’m from [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] and knew a girl whose middle name was [name_f]Louisiane[/name_f] (the [name_u]French[/name_u] spelling. pronunciation Lou-ee-zee-ahn) and I always kind of liked it. Also really like the idea of [name_u]Louise[/name_u] as an honor name!
I checked that too! She was not. She was born in 1855 and the [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] purchase was in 1803. Her siblings also had wonderful names.
Leonidus [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
What a great story! Keep on digging for the significance of [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] for your ancestor! I really like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f].
I am here for this plot!!! [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] is fab as well.
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] Indiana…I mean…can you even?!
I love the idea of you using [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] and [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] as middle names with more classic/vintage first names. What a cool family tradition and lineage!
Such a cool naming history
I’d probably go with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f]
I had a friend named Louisana! She mostly went by [name_u]Louise[/name_u] or [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] is a beautiful name!
From this same line, my 5th great grand aunt was [name_u]America[/name_u] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] grandma is going to try to reach out and see if she can get more of the story. She said she knew [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] and she was kind but that she always thought her name was [name_u]Louise[/name_u] so she never asked about the origin. This has been so fun and my husband is actually on board with [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] so here’s to hoping the next baby is a girl so we can use this gem and revive the tradition!
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you know where you family first immigrated into the USA from? I wonder if they may have come in via [name_u]New[/name_u] Orleans, and named her [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] to honor that. I have ancestors who immigrated in through [name_u]New[/name_u] Orleans - I believe it was a fairly common path for immigrants who ended up in Midwestern states (my family ended up in [name_f]Missouri[/name_f] & Kansas).
