Love Elizabeth… not too gone on the intuitive nicknames

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!
I love the name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but not a fan at all of [name_f]Liz[/name_f] and [name_f]Beth[/name_f].
I have a few good friends called [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (one Elisabeth) and two go by full names, one goes by [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. I also love the connection to St. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] of Hungary, and love the melodic flow of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a full. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] sounds and looks too harsh for me.
However, I do know it’s one of those names that gets shortened a lot, and I really dislike [name_f]Liz[/name_f] and have had bad experiences with a [name_f]Bethany[/name_f], so I could never use either [name_f]Liz[/name_f] or [name_f]Beth[/name_f]. What other nns would you recommend for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]? Are [name_f]Liz[/name_f] and [name_f]Beth[/name_f] simply unavoidable?
Also, if you have any more suggestions similar, I’d love to hear them
Thank you!

Further, I love the nicknames [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Betty[/name_f], but they aren’t as intuitive.

I’ve known plenty of Elizabeths that haven’t gone by [name_f]Liz[/name_f] or [name_f]Beth[/name_f]! A few have been [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], and all have felt natural and intuitive. I think anything goes with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]!

I think that being an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] without nicknames—or, without those nicknames—is totally possible.

However, it’s quite tricky when considering a name to give another person. I’m thinking of it this way: if my name is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and I dislike the nickname [name_f]Liz[/name_f], then I don’t have to go by it, or I can ask people not to call me that. But if I have a daughter named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] who loves the nickname [name_f]Liz[/name_f] and wants to go by it… then who am I to stop her?

I’m not keen on [name_f]Liz[/name_f] either, and I’m totally with you on preferring [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f], and [name_f]Lily[/name_f], but… IRL, nicknames are so often out of parents’ hands. It’s all so relative and can go so many ways!

I think the nicknames [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], and [name_f]Betty[/name_f] are great and totally work! [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is my personal favorite!

[name_f]Betsy[/name_f]
[name_f]Liza[/name_f]
[name_f]Libby[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]

It’s possible Etsi [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or even something like [name_f]Bettina[/name_f] as an offshoot of [name_f]Betty[/name_f] would be fine. [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] although it’s technically from [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] .

I don’t think [name_f]Liz[/name_f] and [name_f]Beth[/name_f] are super automatic these days! The Elizabeths I’ve met have gone by:

[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Libby[/name_f]
[name_u]Billie[/name_u]
EB (and an Ebbie)
[name_f]Betty[/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Libby[/name_f]. I have an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] who I tried calling by her given name, but a teacher shortened it to [name_f]Liz[/name_f]. I reinforced the use of [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f] which I find much softer. The best approach is to decide early on a nickname and begin using it.
Other ideas….
[name_f]Zibby[/name_f]
[name_f]Bitsy[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Lise[/name_f]. as in Lease
Lisi. LEE see
[name_f]Liza[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Bette[/name_f]

The following are some of my favourite potential nicknames:

[name_f]Betsy[/name_f]
[name_f]Bette[/name_f]
[name_f]Betty[/name_f]
Busy/ [name_f]Bizzy[/name_f]
[name_f]Libby[/name_f]

[name_f]Libby[/name_f] is my favourite  (I actually know someone that is called this as a standalone)
Also love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] tbh but even more as a standalone name :grinning:.
Other Options
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Betty[/name_f]
[name_f]Liza[/name_f] (a nickname for [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] in my list but works for this too)
[name_f]Lizzie[/name_f]

If you don’t like any of the most obvious, thankfully, there are a LOT of nicknames for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! I personally think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is perfect on its own without a nickname, unlike a lot of other four syllable names, it doesn’t sound too long to say at is it. If you want a nickname that is inside the name, you could spell it “Elisabeth” and use nicknames such as [name_f]Elisa[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], or [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]. Nicknames like [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], and [name_f]Lissy[/name_f] are all very similar to Elizabeth/Elisabeth, but not as obvious. [name_u]Or[/name_u] there are the many nicknames which are very classic, but a little more removed from the original name: [name_f]Bess[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], etc.

I love [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]! It is also the most straightforward spelling between the two where I live. I love [name_f]Sisi[/name_f] / Sissi, Elli(e), [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Essie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilli[/name_f] / [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] for it.

[name_f]Libby[/name_f] is my favourite nickname :tulip:

betty, lily, and elsie are super intuitive to me! liz and beth feel very dated to me and not at all what i would default to. in fact, i wouldn’t default to any because it’s such a versatile name!

in life, i’ve met elizabeth’s called libby, lizzie, betty, and elle/ellie. my personal favorite is bess, followed by ella. :yellow_heart:

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I’m with you on [name_f]Liz[/name_f] & Beth; totally not my favorite [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nns. But just [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is lovely as are [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] & [name_f]Betty[/name_f]. The thing with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is that you could just call a daughter [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a full name and she wouldn’t necessarily get a nn. If anything, I do think that Liz/Lizzie is the most intuitive and I’d personally be a little worried about it. [name_f]Beth[/name_f] doesn’t seems quite as intuitive to me. The best way to avoid it would probably be to mostly call her and introduce her as whatever nn you do like. If you call her [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], she shouldn’t get pegged [name_f]Liz[/name_f] or [name_f]Beth[/name_f].

On another note, I also love the nns [name_f]Tess[/name_f] & [name_f]Bess[/name_f]!

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.
