Love Gillian - dislike "Jill" other nicknames?

I think [name]Gillian[/name]/[name]Jillian[/name] is a beautiful, classy, feminine name - but I don’t care for [name]Jill[/name]. Would my future daughter be doomed to [name]Jill[/name], or does anybody know of any other good nicknames for [name]Gillian[/name]?

You can use lili (pronounced lee-lee) or however you want to spell it. I don’t know though, I think most everyone will go back to [name]Jill[/name]. I had the same problem with my son’s name. I disliked the normal nickname that went along with it, which is [name]Rick[/name] or [name]Ricky[/name], so I compromised on another nickname but my husband’s father calls my son [name]Ricky[/name] D. Sounds like a DJ. ):

What about [name]Lee[/name] or [name]Ann[/name]/[name]Annie[/name]?? I love [name]Ann[/name] as a nickname for [name]Gillian[/name]!

Good luck!

Your daughter would not be doomed to be a [name]Jill[/name] if you don’t want her to be! If you never call her [name]Jill[/name], no one else will. And if they do, you can always nip it in the bud early.
As for other nicknames for [name]Gillian[/name], there are some- they’re stretches, but there. Here we go.
[name]Lili[/name]
[name]Ian[/name]
[name]Gil[/name] (prounounced with a G sound)
[name]Gila[/name]
[name]Lian[/name]

I hope that helps!

[name]Ricky[/name] D. - That’s cute! I wonder if [name]Lily[/name] would be too much of a stretch. I don’t mind [name]Lilly[/name] (-:

I guess I’ll just have to teach her young to say, “My name is [name]GILLIAN[/name]!”

I love [name]Jillian[/name]! So classy and sweet. The only little [name]Jillian[/name] I know is only [name]Jillian[/name], I’ve never heard her go by [name]Jill[/name]. I think I heard her grandma call her [name]Jilly[/name] Bean once or twice, but usually she’s just [name]Jillian[/name]. [name]Lily[/name] was actually my first idea for [name]Jillian[/name], I was wondering if it was too much of a stretch, too. I also like the idea of [name]Annie[/name] or even [name]Lia[/name]/[name]Leah[/name]…

Good luck!

I like the nn [name]Jilly[/name]/[name]Gilly[/name] for [name]Gillian[/name], but I’m not sure if that’s too close to [name]Jill[/name] for you. [name]Lily[/name] also occurred to me. I don’t think it’s as much of a stretch as some other nns I’ve seen.

you could spell it [name]Gillianne[/name], a bit different, but she could get anne

I’ve known two Gillians and neither of them ever went by a nickname so no, I don’t think people would call your child [name]Jill[/name] unless you called her that first.

The little [name]Gillian[/name] I know is called [name]Jilly[/name] or Bean

I totally agree with this. I forgot to add that to my post. I have a long traditionally nicknamed name and never went by anything other than my full name and never had any problems. I can’t imagine meeting someone and automatically assuming they go by a nickname and presuming to call them that without being told to do so first.

All the [name]Gillian[/name]/Jillians I have known have never been nicknamed [name]Jill[/name], so I think you might actually be safe from those - I don’t think people would automatically assume she would be called [name]Jill[/name]. As another suggestion for a nickname though, what about [name]Lia[/name]? I don’t think it would be too much of a stretch…

That’s comforting - I prefer they’d just stick to [name]Gillian[/name]. [name]Ann[/name] is cute too. BTW asthedreamer, we must have the same name tastes because I [name]LOVE[/name] all your names (-:

[name]Lilli[/name] is not a stretch too far at all. It was the first alternative nn I thought of too.
[name]Just[/name] a point: [name]Gillian[/name] could potentially be said with a hard G [name]GILI[/name]-an whereas [name]Jillian[/name] would rarely be said as anything other than [name]Jilli[/name]-an.
I know 2 Gillians and one is prn G the other J. The “J” one does go by [name]Gill[/name], the “G” one only goes by [name]Gillian[/name].
Best: [name]Jillian[/name] nn [name]Lilli[/name]

I think [name]Jilly[/name] is adorable. I also think “[name]Gigi[/name]” would be great!

Yeah, i think I’ll insist in [name]Lilli[/name] if family tries to nickname her (they’re bad about that.)I thought of “[name]Gigi[/name]” too since her middle name might be [name]Grace[/name], but hubby thought it sounded like a show girl (-:

I was waiting to see if someone would mention [name]Gigi[/name], and you did
[name]Gigi[/name] is adorable! A perfect choice for a little [name]Gillian[/name].
