My last “[name_f]LOVE[/name_f] IT OR LOATHE IT” post got such great feedback I decided to bring it back!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] some background on the name [name_m]Soren[/name_m]:
It is a Danish/Norwegian boy name meaning “stern”
I also found that it is an old Norse alternative to [name_m]Thor[/name_m]. Hm?
I’ve always liked this name and love the contrast between its harsher meaning yet soft sound.
I would say I love it! I am half Danish, so I like that the name is Danish and my grandfather is named [name_m]Thor[/name_m] and my dad is named Torr, so it would be cool if I named my son [name_m]Soren[/name_m] and kind of kept the name going… Although it’s not the same name, I like that that’s part of it’s history!
[name_f]Love[/name_f] it! I have Scandinavian ancestry, so I tend to gravitate toward names from that part of the world. It’s on trend right now with the “-en” ending, but it also sounds stronger (and certainly less made up) than a lot of the Jaydens, etc.
I like it kind of, it reminds me of kingdom hearts character [name_f]Sora[/name_f], so that’s a good connection but the word “sore” is not a great connection. It’s just so so [name_f]IMO[/name_f]
I’m torn. I quite like it and I quite like the connection to [name_m]Thor[/name_m] (my son’s middle name is [name_u]Loki[/name_u] and I do quite like a lot of Norse names) but it sort of reminds me of Sauron (LOTR). Also, people are saying it’s a soft sounding name and it would be where I come from but where I live now the ‘r’ would actually make it a harsh sounding name.
I really like [name_m]Soren[/name_m]!
But my absolute favorite forms of the name are still [name_m]Severin[/name_m] and [name_m]Severus[/name_m]. However, [name_m]Soren[/name_m] is still one of my favorites.
[name_m]Soren[/name_m], spelled Søren in Denmark, reminds me of an awful teacher. If I didn’t know him (hit broke some of the school stuff and blamed a boy named [name_m]Tomas[/name_m]) I think I’d like it more than I do now.
Depends on how you pronounce it. If you over-emphasize the first syllable, then it sounds like sore-an, which is not appealing. But, if you pronounce it more like so-run. (I don’t know how to would spell it phonetically, but it’s more like the beginning of sock), then it sounds better.
[name_m]Soren[/name_m] is one of my favorites! I’ve used it in multiple lists outside of Nameberry and I used the name for one of my RPG characters! [name_f]Love[/name_f] this name!
It’s not one of my favorites, but I do I like it a lot. DP loves it because it’s the name of a planeswalker in [name_u]Magic[/name_u]: the Gathering (sp. Sorin). I do, however, love [name_f]Sora[/name_f].
I neither love it nor loathe it. It’s not my favourite Nordic name and it probably has to do with the first syllable sound of “sore”. Along with [name_m]Stellan[/name_m], it’s becoming the hot “go-to” flavour of the month Scandinavian boys name.
