Love, love, love Vivian but

Is it too popular and does it flow with [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] and [name_f]Mae[/name_f]? [name_m]Just[/name_m] love [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] but it doesn’t “sound” the best with our sibset. Suggestions please! ”

I think [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is perfect with [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] and [name_f]Mae[/name_f]…it’s a surprisingly beautiful and lilting exclamation point to the first three somewhat plain names. [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is delightful!

[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is somewhat popular, (assuming you are in the USA) it’s in the top 100, albeit 97 with 3,013 girls given the name in 2017. The biggest thing is that [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], and [name_f]Mae[/name_f] are all short and nickname-y while [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is longer and staunchly a “full name”.

What about [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]? It’s short and sweet and fits in with [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], and [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and you get the starting sound from [name_u]Vivian[/name_u].

It goes well with the others. If those are their formal names I love the suggestion of @librarising to use [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]. Only you can decide if it is too popular but there are thousands of names being used today so I wouldn’t be concerned, but I would encourage you to use what you love! [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is a lovely choice.

i think [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is gorgeous and works beautifully with the sibling names.

Thank you all for your input! ”

I don’t like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], so abrupt and severe to me compared to others and only works, in my mind, on an exceptionally pretty person. But it’s a nice surprise with your others and all literary names.

I’d go for [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Irene[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f] or [name_f]Nell[/name_f]!

I think it sounds fine, and besides - it is ALWAYS more important to use a name you love rather than just a name that just “sounds the best with the other kids.”

[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] being maybe (slightly?) more popular than your other names is neither here nor there in considering whether they work well together or not. The difference is that [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] and [name_f]Mae[/name_f] are short and nicknamey in style whereas [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is longer and perhaps more formal. Though I think Mae and Vivian are actually really similar style of names and sound like sisters to me.

That said (and I’m a great one for loving complementary name sets!) I think it’s absolutely fine. [name_m]Just[/name_m] for general feel and style they all sound good together - they are all current and fashionable names, chic modern revivals. [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] may well end up with a shorter version too. I’d say go for this name that you love.

Oh, who cares? [name_m]Just[/name_m] use [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]!

I think it works fine. [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] gives the set a rustic vibe that [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] doesn’t exactly share, but [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] doesn’t feel out of place since it is familiar and vintage like the others. I think #97 is not overly popular and it doesn’t stick out as more popular than the others. Other ideas if you aren’t convinced: [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f]

Firstly, I’m very much of the school of thought that if you really love a name, that outweighs any other considerations. It’s hard to find a name that you love that much, especially for a fourth child!

But secondly I think they’re all absolutely fine together, because they’re all names that were popular (or more commonly used) in a similar era. In fact they have an old-school Hollywood vibe to me - [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] McDaniel, [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]West[/name_u], [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]. Admittedly I can’t think of a [name_f]Tess[/name_f] but I bet there is one! And if you’re a nicknamer, as [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] and [name_f]Tess[/name_f] would suggest, there’s nothing to stop you naming the baby [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and nicknaming her [name_f]Vivi[/name_f].
