I think I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Archer[/name], but I only barely like the nickname [name]Archie[/name]. I don’t hate it or anything, but I can only picture either a little baby or elderly man with this nickname, not a teen or young/middle aged adult. I think it is highly likely that his nickname would become [name]Archie[/name], even if we only called him [name]Archer[/name] or [name]Arch[/name] (which I really like)
Has anyone come to love their child’s nickname even though they didn’t love it at first?
Should I take [name]Archer[/name] off the list? I was wondering whether because the nickname would then become associated with our son to be, we would grow to love it.
Unfortunately we can’t always choose our future child’s nicknames from school friends!
But I think [name]Archer[/name] is such a handsome choice…I would stick with it, and if you choose the name, only call him [name]Arch[/name] as a NN and hope that it sticks.
I am afraid of the same thing and have reserved it as a middle name-[name]Archer[/name] is my mothers maiden name and I think it’s very handsome!
I think you would have this problem no matter what the name is. His school friends and teachers and such will pick a nickname for him that you might not like, it’s inevitable. I like [name]Archer[/name] and I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Arch[/name] as a nickname.
I don’t think you’d have too hard a time enforcing [name]Arch[/name] rather than [name]Archie[/name], because it’s not that far off so it shouldn’t be too hard for people to get used to (not like saying “The is [name]Archer[/name] call him [name]Ace[/name] or something.”)
I have an 8 month old [name]Archer[/name]. Everyone knows I don’t like him being called [name]Archie[/name] and they respect that. Sometimes I call him [name]Arch[/name] but his nicknames are mostly not even associated with his name…we call him [name]Tex[/name] (short for [name]Texas[/name] Wildman) and [name]Bubba[/name] a lot.
[name]Archer[/name] doesn’t need a nn. [name]Archie[/name] isn’t even shorter or easier to say than [name]Archer[/name], so I doubt people would call him that. If they do just tell them his name is [name]Archer[/name]
Thank you everyone!! Your responses make a lot of sense to me. This may just be the one!! I just love how [name]Archer[/name] sounds…now to get my partner off of the name [name]Bryce[/name] is the next challenge. [name]Archer[/name] was on our list months ago though, so it may not be too difficult
My husband would never go for it, but I think it’s cute! [name]Archer[/name]'s NN [name]Archie[/name] is the same length and syllables, so maybe it’s not that far fetched to try to keep it [name]Archer[/name].
