Love the Boys, Loathe the Girls

Why do I find so many great male names on nameberry and feel a visceral wince at so many of the female names?

This is not a particularly answerable question. I’m just putting it out there.

Brialleyza. I’m making that up (I think and hope). But names like that, that literally hurt to look at or say. Whereas while I might not name a son Dexter or Stanley or Lucas or Philo or Rex or Tobin, these seem like names to me.

Brialleyza, not so much.

I think some of the girl names that cycle through here are very fanciful. [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Odessa[/name_f] and so on, feel like characters of a book or movie (some of them are lol). I can’t imagine using many of them, let alone meeting one.

I think boy names on here tend to stay less adventurous and are often names we’ve seen in our own lives. We can easily say, “Oh, I know a ——!”

Those are just my thoughts on it lol. I’ve had similar thoughts at some of the trends on here but it is interesting to see people find beauty in all sorts of names.

I love [name_u]James[/name_u] for boys but loathe it for girls.
