Me and my husband (okay mostly me) has been looking at names long before we decided to TTC and one of the only boy names that we instsantly agreed on (and both loved) was [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]…of course this was after telling my husband No about naming a son after him, but I did agree that the middle name could be after his middle. So [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] it is. I really do love the name and it’s set in stone if we are having a boy…but I’m not a huge fan of ‘common’ names. According to the SSA there has been less then 1,000 babies born in my state in 2013 and was number 13…but I live in a state with 19 million people so that number is pretty small, but I’m not sure how correct the SSA is (I would assume it’s pretty accurate). I don’t know any [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]'s personally and never encountered any in my school life (that I remember)
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think there would be a lot of Gabriels in a future classroom? [name_m]How[/name_m] about those people who have kids in preschool, any Gabriels?
If it helps I live in [name_f]Florida[/name_f].
I know that it doesn’t matter and that I’m sticking with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] no matter what ([name_f]My[/name_f] husband won’t budge on it and I’ve become too attached to the name anyway) just curious.
I know one [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] (but I am in Australia, so I don’t know how valid that is). He is my cousin, and the rest of the family have fairly uncommon names. I know a lot of kids too (friends of my sister, relatives, kids that come into my work or I know somehow). Worst case scenario, there might be two [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]'s in the classroom, but I don’t think it will ever reach the popularity of say, [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] or [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] (although those might not be the best examples. But there were 6-7 [name_m]Joshua[/name_m]'s when I was in year 11 and 12).
[name_f]My[/name_f] brother’s name is [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], though he goes by [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] and he’s always known at least 2 Gabriels. He’s 13 now.
I don’t think [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is too popular – I think it’s a little feminine. I saw that you have the name [name_u]November[/name_u] [name_u]Rain[/name_u] in your signature… Are you a fan of Guns N’ Roses?
[name_f]My[/name_f] friend knows someone called [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], but I’ve never met anyone personally called [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. That probably wasn’t helpful seeing as I live in the UK, but I’d think there would only be 2 Gabriels in a class max, even then I doubt there’d even be that many.
I think [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] is a handsome name. As popular as [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is, you will probably have a few in the same school, but probably not more than 2 in a class. It’s not as popular as the [name_m]Liam[/name_m] craze.
I know a 7 year old [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] but you know if you love a name. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry. In some ways it is nice to have a name that reflects the time and place you were born. Western culture is stupidly obsessed with difference.
I don’t think its overly popular, I work with kids and when I worked at a daycare last year we had one [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] (who would be about 3 now), I also knew one [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] ([name_m]Gabe[/name_m]) in high school. Those are the only Gabriels I have met!
I live in [name_f]Florida[/name_f]! I haven’t met a [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] yet, my guess is it’s most common in the Spanish speaking areas. It’s a very handsome name! [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about popularity. If it’s not one of the top 5 in the state he’ll probably run into a few throughout his lifetime but he won’t be one in 5 in his class.
800 [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]'s in 2013 in the entire state of [name_f]Florida[/name_f].
He’ll definitely meet some but the chances are slim he’ll know a ton.
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] is a great name. If you love it and agree on it, don’t let popularity sway you. Popularity just doesn’t mean the same thing that it used to.
I would say it’s pretty much classic by now. I couldn’t say how many Gabriels I’ve met, but there’s at least a handful of them, and all varied in age. Then again, popularity isn’t as bad as when we were younger–it averages out that there will only be one [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], etc., per grade (not even classroom; this is a whole grade we’re talking about) per school district, and then that isn’t even including private schools, home schools, charter schools, etc., which would dilute the popularity even more. I’m sure a little [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] would meet another one at some point, but I don’t foresee it being a terrible issue.
I’ve never met a [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] but I live in the UK so that may be a moot point. In my opinion, I think boys can pull off slightly more popular names than girls can.
Yes, [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is popular, even common, but he is not trendy. [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is both classic and Biblical, therefore will always hold some level of appeal. It’s a “safe” choice, but a very nice one.
I am in college and do not have children myself, however I have a six year old brother, two nephews under two and work with kids at church. I know around three/four kids named [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] from these connections. They all go by [name_m]Gabe[/name_m].
I know like 4 or 5 Gabriels. But I really think it depends on where you live. You said you live in FL so I’m almost surprised there aren’t any around you. We live in a Hispanic heavy environment and I work PT in a restaurant. Our neighbors have a 3 year old named [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and there are currently two at my PT job.
However, the only [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] I’ve meet outside of our current community was the 6th child of a very religious [name_m]German[/name_m] family (he’s now a teenager). I think it really depends on underlying culture of where you live. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know if that helps at all.
