I recently came across a new blog (http://bakersdozenandapolloxiv.com/), and the author has 14 kids. Of course I immediately looked to see what their names are, and they were too interesting not to share. Thoughts?
They’re okay. I think the theme is far too obvious for my liking personally.
I like [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Adalia[/name], [name]Kalina[/name], [name]Mordecai[/name] most.
Edit: I read through the blog, her kids are so lovely! And lots of prayers to be sent for Apollo.
Interesting names. [name]Enoch[/name] is one of my guilty pleasure names that I’d never actually use. I also really like [name]Judah[/name] and [name]Ezra[/name].
I agree with dantea- I was surprised to see [name]Apollo[/name] after all of those strong biblical names.
[name]Keziah[/name] - like very much. Though I prefer the [name]Kezia[/name] spelling I think. And there’s a few different pronunciations floating around. This is on my own list though.
[name]Ezra[/name] - [name]Love[/name].
[name]Boaz[/name] - [name]Don[/name]‘t think this is wearable. Prefer a number of other Biblical B’s that don’t rhyme with po’ ass or 3/4 letters in common with “Bozo.”
[name]Adalia[/name] - [name]Just[/name] not very fond of it but not bad. It’s a [name]German[/name] girl’s name. Biblically a male name of a guy who was killed for being evil. Odd choice without any pretty [name]German[/name] sibset names to put it in context. [name]Ada[/name]/[name]Adah[/name] would make more sense.
[name]Judah[/name] - [name]Love[/name], floats on and off my own list.
[name]Tilly[/name] - this seems free-floating and random in the Biblical theme. Not bad though.
[name]Enoch[/name] - I guess I’m weird, I like [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Ezekiel[/name], [name]Eleazer[/name]… but not [name]Enoch[/name]. That’s just me though. There’s nothing really wrong with it.
[name]Kalina[/name] - So not into Biblical names all that much for girls I guess?
[name]Mordecai[/name] - [name]Love[/name] a lot, don’t have strong feelings on the spelling.
[name]Jubilee[/name] - Like the X-man? I don’t like this.
[name]Hezekiah[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it, [name]Ezekiel[/name] is the more common route to [name]Zeke[/name] though.
[name]Avi[/name] (girl) - Dislike very much for a girl. It’s jarring to see a name like this amongst [name]Hezekiah[/name], [name]Mordecai[/name], etc. and it not be another boy. Unless its short for [name]Avigail[/name] I guess.
[name]Tucker[/name] - NMS.
[name]Apollo[/name] - NMS and kinda getting the feeling they’ve stopped trying.
I think the boys, overall, did well compared to the girls. [name]Keziah[/name] and [name]Kalina[/name] are pretty though.
[name]Apollo[/name] is awesome! But the XIV makes me think he was named after a space shuttle or something (yes I know, it’s because he’s baby number 14).
Out of the others I like [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Mordecai[/name], and [name]Tucker[/name]. The girls’ names and most of the biblical names are NMSAA.
Biblical names aren’t my favorite category, but [name]Boaz[/name] is an intriguing choice. Reminds me of boas (the snakes).
You have to wonder why they picked [name]Apollo[/name]. It seems like a family with all those Biblical names would shy away from such an obviously pagan choice. Did they stop trying? Is there a specific reason?
I went through the blog, too. They seem to be a lovely family, and [name]Apollo[/name] is a beautiful little boy. I hope he gets well.
I like the names [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Judah[/name] for boys; I like [name]Boaz[/name], [name]Enoch[/name], [name]Mordecai[/name] and [name]Hezekiah[/name], too, but they’re just a bit off the edge of my “really-like” radar. [name]Tucker[/name] and [name]Apollo[/name] seem like totally different styles, both from the other boys and from each other. I wish I’d been able to find naming stories on the blog.
For the girls, [name]Adalia[/name] and [name]Kalina[/name] are unfamiliar to me, but pretty; and [name]Avi[/name] is cute but a totally different style. I don’t care that much for the names [name]Keziah[/name] and [name]Tilly[/name].
Thanks for sharing!
[name]Boaz[/name] (love the nn [name]Bo[/name]/[name]Beau[/name]), [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Tilly[/name], and [name]Adalia[/name] are my favorites. I don’t find [name]Apollo[/name] so jarring, mainly because there are quite a few that aren’t really Biblical–[name]Tucker[/name], [name]Tilly[/name], [name]Kalina[/name].
They sound like a truly beautiful family, and my heart goes out to sweet little [name]Apollo[/name]. I hadn’t known about their blog until now, but I wish every happiness and blessing for them all, particularly [name]Apollo[/name].
Such a fabulous set of names; I had a flick through their blog, and they seem like such a lovely family. I also agree that the fact they adopted older children internationally has a lot to do with the names not ‘matching’ in theme (I’ve spent lots of time in [name]West[/name] [name]Africa[/name], where unusual biblical names are far more common).
I particularly love [name]Avi[/name], [name]Apollo[/name] and [name]Ezra[/name].
I read this blog! The parents mostly just took into consideration the meanings of the names and/or the characters in the bible bearing those names. The adopted kids’ names were changed when they joined the family. I like that the letter Z ties the three oldest’s names together. [name]Enoch[/name] goes by his middle name; his given name is Almanzo and he used to go by [name]Manly[/name]. [name]Tucker[/name] was inadvertently picked by his older siblings. I believe [name]Apollo[/name] had to do with the family’s love of learning/science/space. They watched and loved the movie [name]Apollo[/name] XIII, so it seems fitting. I think [name]Keziah[/name] and [name]Hezekiah[/name] are too close, and too many of the names end in a/ah.
My favorites:
[name]Apollo[/name]
[name]Boaz[/name] (but not [name]Bo[/name])
[name]Jubilee[/name]
[name]Avi[/name]
[name]Tucker[/name] (only for the sound)
