I have always loved the name [name_f]Neva[/name_f] (pronounced Nee-vah) .
Would love your opinions! She is due in Feb. Big brother is named [name_m]Ezra[/name_m].
Thanks!
I think it’s pretty but a bit too similar to [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]. What about [name_f]Neve[/name_f]/[name_f]Niamh[/name_f]? It’s similar to [name_f]Neva[/name_f] but a bit more different to [name_m]Ezra[/name_m].
Thanks for the reply. Although not a deal breaker for me that was a concern i had as well.
It reminds me of [name_f]Nova[/name_f], which isn’t too uncommon. I do agree that [name_f]Neva[/name_f] and [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] are too similar though. If you like short names, maybe:
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_u]Hero[/name_u]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Mina[/name_f]
[name_f]Effie[/name_f]
[name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_f]Alba[/name_f]
I find [name_f]Neva[/name_f] very pretty, and it doesn’t sound overly close to [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] in my opinion. The Russian supermodel [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] Vodianova has a daughter called it, named after the [name_f]Neva[/name_f] [name_u]River[/name_u] that flows through [name_m]Saint[/name_m] Petersburg.
I’m afraid that some people would pronounce it [name_f]Neve[/name_f]-ah. As in neva evah. (never ever)
You might like:

[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Viva[/name_f]
[name_f]Neela[/name_f]
[name_f]Neena[/name_f]/[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Neva[/name_f]. I don’t think it’s close to [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] at all beyond same syllables and a-ending. [name_m]Way[/name_m] less common than [name_f]Nova[/name_f] and a bit extra than [name_f]Neve[/name_f]. Great choice.
I like [name_f]Neva[/name_f], and I don’t think it’s too close to [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] (I think they complement each other well).
Perhaps the only issue would be finding a third similar sounding name should you have another child in the future.
It’s an uncommon choice, but not one that I see being very difficult to wear.
I like [name_f]Neva[/name_f] it’s different and very interesting! I say use it if you love it.
[name_f]My[/name_f] godfather was married to a woman named [name_f]Neva[/name_f] but I rarely saw them. So I’m familiar with it.
I think it will be commonly misheard as [name_f]Eva[/name_f], and it’s a common misspelling of “never” at least on the internet, so I’m not a huge fan. I agree that [name_f]Neve[/name_f] would be better with [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] as well.
Oh my goodness! I have liked this name for ages but nobody seems to like it. It is lovely and unique but easy for people to spell and pronounce. Go for it!
I think [name_f]Neva[/name_f] and [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] are pretty fantastic together!
It’s a pretty name but it does sound a lot like [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]. I think [name_f]Neve[/name_f] is a beautiful option.
[name_f]Neva[/name_f] {and} [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] certainly works as far as being spunky four-letter names with a “special” character (“v”, “z”).
[name_f]Neva[/name_f] is nice, but maybe the two a’s are a bit much.
I don’t think it’s too different, no, however it would take me a bit to come to pronounce it NEE-vah, as I automatically say NEH-vah (like the Australian pronunciation of the word never). I actually like the sound of NEE-vah better though.
I don’t think [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and [name_f]Neva[/name_f] are too bad as a sibling pair - they’re different in style, but the four letters and the harsh-like Z and V kind of has them fit together nicely.
I know a three year old [name_f]Neva[/name_f]. I’ve never thought of it as “too different”. I think its a little bit unique without being too out there. Hers is pronounced NEE-va and I haven’t heard of any pronounciation problems with hers.
I think perhaps problems could occur with pronounciation if you live somewhere where [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is pronounced EH-va. Where I live (NZ) [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is definitely EE-va though, so it makes sense that [name_f]Neva[/name_f] is NEE-va.
I actually really like this name, not for me but meeting a littler [name_f]Neva[/name_f] would be so cute!
Also, I hope you don’t nix the name because if the long sounding A’s! [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and [name_f]Neva[/name_f] do not sound alike at all to me, and no matter what the names we’re bound to trip over our kids’ names anyway!
I loooove [name_f]Neva[/name_f]. I am from Australia and I would be inclined to pronounced it ‘[name_f]Neeva[/name_f]’ rather than ‘Never’, although I would concede that some people would probably pronounce it the latter way.
The only reservation is that apparently ‘[name_f]Neva[/name_f]’ is a common brand name in South [name_u]America[/name_u], probably because it evokes ‘nieves’ or ‘neves’ meaning snow in Spanish. This comes from a Spanish-speaking friend. I would go right ahead and use it though!
Thanks so much everyone for the opinions. So nice to get opinions without having to share names with family before she arrives!
