Loving Phillip right now!

I’m really into using the name [name]Phillip[/name] right now if our [name]November[/name] baby is a boy. I have a few uncertainties about it though. [name]How[/name] would most assume [name]Phillip[/name] is spelled? I assumed it was this way, with two l’s. But I’ve found out that the original spelling is [name]Philip[/name] with only one l- I usually like to go with the original spelling of any name but I also want the most intuitive one! Also, is [name]Phillip[/name] too “formal” sounding with its association with royalty and history? I love the idea of having a little [name]Phillip[/name] that we can call [name]Phil[/name], [name]Pip[/name], [name]Flip[/name] around the house

I usually spell [name]Philip[/name] with one l, I think…although the spelling with two ll’s looks so right, now I am looking at it, that I can’t really decide! [name]Philip[/name] doesn’t sound too formal to me, especially with the lovely nicknames you have planned - I have always been tempted to put [name]Philip[/name] Pirrip on my list, for the nickname [name]Pip[/name], as in Great Expectations, but I think just [name]Philip[/name] would work (and would be more reasonable perhaps…) but anyway. Good luck!

I’d always spell it [name]Philip[/name]. [name]Phillip[/name] just looks like the surname missing the ‘s’. It’s a lovely classic which I don’t think it’s too formal or too associated with royalty- you can’t get more informal than [name]Phil[/name] [name]Mitchell[/name] And [name]Pip[/name] and [name]Flip[/name] are such cute nicknames!

I love [name]Phillip[/name](2 l’s)! It is a much underused classic. On the flip side, I detest [name]Phil[/name].

I prefer [name]Philip[/name]. Please don’t call him [name]Phil[/name] though.

Last years American Idol winner, [name]Phillip[/name] [name]Phillips[/name] loves the name [name]Phillip[/name] too!

Ahh… very torn on the L issue still! Thanks for the feedback. I used to detest the name [name]Phil[/name] as well but I’ve come not to mind it as much anymore. It’s like [name]Tom[/name] and [name]Matt[/name] and [name]Mike[/name] to me- not particularly special but nothing wrong with it either. I’d much more enjoy using [name]Pip[/name] or [name]Flip[/name] (swoon) or even just [name]Philip[/name] in its full form… but I think it’s very unrealistic to think a [name]Philip[/name] would be able to avoid “[name]Phil[/name]” throughout his life, so I may as well embrace it!

We came close to naming my 3rd son [name]Philip[/name] it’s a long time favorite of my hubby’s. We used it in the middle spot instead. It’s a great name I say go for it.

I think [name]Philip[/name] is a great name! Very handsome, well-established, versatile (easy to translate in to other languages), and relatively uncommon (where I’m from, anyway).

My fathers name is [name]Philip[/name] and he spells it with the single L. I think it’s a lovely name and it suits my dad well. My only frustration with this name is that it doesn’t have an overly inspiring meaning “lover of horses”.

[name]Phillip[/name] is more natural to me, and I think that it’s a great name and with the nn [name]Pip[/name] it doesn’t seem too formal at all.

I know two little boys (more than I would expect!), one is [name]Philip[/name] and the other is [name]Philipp[/name], so anything goes! [name]Phillip[/name] and [name]Philip[/name] both look really natural, I think it’s like [name]Catherine[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name] (and [name]Kathryn[/name]). I think [name]Phillip[/name] looks visually a little easier to distance from “[name]Phil[/name]” and from “lip”. I know one adult, who is [name]Philip[/name].
