I think I have a perfect list of middle names for girls, but I’m really struggling to love any first names. The middles I love are long and [name_m]French[/name_m]-inspired (part of my heritage), but I’m not sure I love them for first names because of their length. I tend to like 1-2 syllable first names with longer middle names - our last name is 3 syllables and I think the variation/emphasis on syllables works well.
The middle names I really love are:
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
Can you help me come up with some combos I love? For a while, my front-runner for a girl first name has been [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], but I may be waning on that a bit. My long-time favorite (which has been vetoed by DH) is [name_u]Sloane[/name_u], but I’ve slowly made peace about letting her go (lol!).
I’d love to get some options for each of these middle names - we’re planning on having multiple kids, so I want to be prepared with a few combos that I love!
As someone who has said the name [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] a thousand times a day (I have a furbaby named [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]) for the past 7 years, it’s not a name you get tired of. It’s just a damn fun word to say and my liking for the name has only increased with time rather than decreased. If anything, the only bad thing about the name [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is that I now struggle to find any names I like as much! Sometimes you get tired and self-doubt a name you like before you bestow it on a person or animal, but once it’s on them you’ll love it as much as the day you first considered it. So don’t give up on [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]!
I personally think [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are especially lovely.
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] (nn Haddie)
[name_f]Fianna[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ([name_f]Fianna[/name_f] is my new obsession!)
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f] [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] ([name_u]LOVE[/name_u] this, it’s a top combo of mine)
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (DJ as a possible nn)
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
@drasticgame Thank you for the reassurance on [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]! It’s an honor name in a way, and it’s really the only girls’ name DH and I have ever fully agreed on. I think I’m a little scared of its rising popularity, but I also don’t think it will reach an [name_f]Ava[/name_f]/[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] level (I hope not anyway!).
I love [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]…like a lot! Our last name ends in -o so I’m a tad hesitant, but it actually might work!
I’m also wondering if I should start considering all these middles I love as first names since they have such great nn potentials, and since DH’s new favorite for a boy is [name_m]McCormack[/name_m] which is long and more formal sounding.
Does anyone have any thoughts of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], and [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] (also might throw in [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]) for first names? Any combo ideas? Last name is 3 syllables ending in -o.
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is actually one of my favorite combos. It’s just perfect! I’d also like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is a gorgeous name - cool but old-fashioned together.
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] is pretty cute too, very fairy-tale.
[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is quite nice too but whether it really works would depend on the surname that goes with it.
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]Jubilee[/name_f] is adorable, if a little children’s cartoon character. [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]'s a little overused at this point though - she’s bound not to be the only one in a class. Depends how you feel about that.
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] could be nicknamed [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_u]Lane[/name_u], or [name_u]Lanie[/name_u].
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] could be nicknamed [name_u]Wren[/name_u].
