Hello, I’ve been writing a fantasy story for some time now. It’s not entirely low fantasy (aka, the setting is on our planet, [name_f]Earth[/name_f]). What I mean is that about halfway through the story, the main character travels through a portal to a different dimension. So even though the story is considered not entirely low or high fantasy, the main character originates in our world. Which means that she has to have a name from our world.
I noticed the forms but decided that I’d much rather write my own with all the necessary information. Here’s information on my character:
Current name: Kysa Eru
Gender: Female
Why I’m changing it: Her name doesn’t sound like it’s from our world. Unusual names are certainly in our world, but I want to be a little more realistic. I like the name but it doesn’t really convey that she was born and raised in Los [name_f]Angeles[/name_f].
Notable features: Is [name_f]Asian[/name_f] (Korean-Japanese to be exact).
What I want: I want a cool, pretty, and not-super-mainstream name, but at the same time be common enough that it’s not totally obscure (no made-up names, please!). A nice Korean or Japanese last name is also what I’m looking for, but I’m primarily looking for a first name.
[name_f]Inspiration[/name_f]: Some names that I’ve considered and may yet use are: [name_f]Reyna[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
Please do not suggest: Names that sound way too high fantasy, like “Huentiranae” (because we all know that common people do not have such names). [name_m]Even[/name_m] though this is fantasy, the main character originates in our world, around Los [name_f]Angeles[/name_f], to be specific, so keep that in mind when coming up with a name.
