I’m trying to decide on which spelling to use, [name_u]Luca[/name_u] or [name_m]Luka[/name_m]. His name will legally be with an s on the end ([name_m]Lucas[/name_m] / Lukas), but my spouse and I know we will primarily call him [name_u]Luca[/name_u] / Luka or [name_m]Luc[/name_m] / Luke.
Our surname starts with a C so I was thinking [name_u]Luca[/name_u] may look better aesthetically, but both of our families immigrated to the USA from Eastern Europe circa 1930/40s and I’ve read that [name_m]Luka[/name_m] is the most popular spelling there. Help?!
I prefer the [name_m]Luka[/name_m] spelling but it depends on how you choose to spell his full name, unless that spelling depends on the nickname, so that they match.
I prefer [name_u]Luca[/name_u], but even though that’s more common in my family, if [name_m]Luka[/name_m] is the more popular spelling in your culture, that might be a sweet homage!
[name_u]Luca[/name_u]/Lucas is more popular in the US I believe, but if you are fine it being misspelled sometimes, it would be great to honor your heritage with [name_m]Luka[/name_m]/Lukas.
