This may seem like an obvious question. But my mind was wandering in a lecture today and I was thinking, if I want the nn [name_m]Luke[/name_m] should I use the spelling [name_m]Lukas[/name_m] rather than [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]?
I much prefer [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] nn [name_m]Luke[/name_m] but should I go for the more intuitive [name_m]Lukas[/name_m] to [name_m]Luke[/name_m] spelling?
I think [name_m]Luke[/name_m] works fine as a nickname for [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], rather than [name_m]Lukas[/name_m]. It’s true that it changes the consonant, but it’s also the traditional nickname for it–it’s less of a major change than [name_m]William[/name_m]/[name_m]Bill[/name_m] for example.
You could also use [name_m]Luc[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]! But I say go with [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] nn [name_m]Luke[/name_m], both are really handsome, timeless names.
