Is [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] trendy? Or do you think it will become trendy in the next 10 years?
It currently sits at #14 nationally, which is where [name_u]Noah[/name_u] was a decade ago, and [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] has a similar rising pattern as [name_u]Noah[/name_u] did albeit less drastic.
My s/o really likes [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] nn [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. It’s never been my cup of tea (I hear mucus) but I do like [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. I happen to know about 4 people who named their sons [name_m]Luke[/name_m] in the last 4 years but only one [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]. [name_m]Luke[/name_m] dropped over 10 spots this year for my state but [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] is now in the top 10.
What do you think? It’s definitely more popular than other favorites of mine, but I’m entertaining the thought for my s/o.
To me [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]/[name_m]Luke[/name_m] is just one of those classic names that is never either in or out of style. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it does gain in popularity it won’t be one of those names where your son’s generation is identified by his name, there are [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]’ of every generation. If you’re looking for something similar but less popular you could suggest [name_m]Lucius[/name_m], [name_m]Linus[/name_m] or [name_u]Luca[/name_u] (though [name_u]Luca[/name_u] may be too “trendy”).
I love [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]. Handsome and classic; I’d say it’s pretty evergreen and won’t ever really be trendy. Popular? Yes. But definitely not trendy. I think the fact that there are so many boys named [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], [name_m]Luke[/name_m], and [name_u]Luca[/name_u] that it makes it feel even more popular than what it is.
I agree with PP suggestion of [name_u]Luca[/name_u]. Feels a slightly fresher than [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] (though I do like the name [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]).
For what it’s worth, my mid-20s brother is named [name_m]Luke[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] and I’ve always loved his name. It’s familiar, yet strong, and I think [name_m]Luke[/name_m] can totally stand alone. However, given your concerns, I think [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] or [name_u]Luca[/name_u] would give you the slightly different edge with the nickname [name_m]Luke[/name_m] that you both love.
I like [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], and I agree with pps that it’s popular rather than super trendy. It’s peaked and declined in popularity here (UK) already, but it doesn’t feel dated or tied to a particular age group to me. Possibly in a few more years it will, but that’s a risk you take with any name really as you just never know what will catch on.
Personally, I prefer [name_u]Luca[/name_u], but I think that’s probably trendier than [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] as it’s really only surged in popularity recently and has that very current -a ending as well as the long vowel.
