I don’t think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is difficult and I love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]! I voted [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] gets my 2nd vote.
This is so tough! I love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], AND [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. I don’t even know which one to rule out. You can’t go wrong with any of these :).
I see what you mean about wanting to turn [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] into [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] or something, but I personally do really like [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] itself. A note about [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is that some people pronounce it as “loo-SEE-uh” (my preferred version) while others say “LOO-sha,” so that’s one thing to consider. Cici is really sweet, especially for a child, and somehow feels more intuitive as a nickname for [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] than [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] does. Regarding [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], I think it’s a vintage name that’s really making a comeback, and I find [name_f]Lydie[/name_f] to be very spunky as well! My only personal hesitation about [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]/[name_f]Lydie[/name_f] is the prominence of the “lid” sound, which kind of bothers me (I wish it didn’t though).
One thing you could think about here is, which name do you feel most comfortable shouting 100 times a day, both at home and across crowded playgrounds? Which one would you rather see and write the rest of your life? Which one “fits” your family the best?
Best of luck!
I think [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] makes an adorable nick name for [name_f]Lucia[/name_f].
I really like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and I love [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], although I’ve always pronounced it “Loo CHEE uh”. I think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is nice, but I would expect it to be misspelled and assumed to be some other name a lot of the time.
I voted for [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] but I think you can get away using both that and Cici. I have more than one nickname and I answer to all naturally. I favour the Italian pronunciation Loo-Chee-uh, btw, and I think Cici is even more intuitive that way. Loo-See-uh is a close second to me.
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is lovely. You don’t need to make it into [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] or [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] if you don’t want to. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is perfect as it is.
No, I don’t find [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] challenging, or want to lengthen it to [name_f]Liliana[/name_f]. I know a 19-year-old [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. It’s also a character in [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] B. [name_u]DeMille[/name_u]'s The Ten Commandments.
[name_f]Lydie[/name_f] is cute. I’ve also seen it spelled Liddy or [name_f]Liddie[/name_f]. (According to the Behind the Name, Liddy is also a diminutive of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].) I think [name_f]Lidda[/name_f], [name_f]Lida[/name_f] (LYE-da) and even [name_f]Deedee[/name_f] are cute, spunky nicknames for [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] as well.
I voted for [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] “Cici,” because [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is its own separate name. (Similarly, I find it silly when people name their daughter [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] with the intention of only ever calling her [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]; same with [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] “[name_f]Lily[/name_f],” since [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is an independent name.) Also, Cici reminds me of [name_f]Empress[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] of [name_f]Austria[/name_f], called [name_f]Sisi[/name_f]. After [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] my second choice would be [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], then [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]; both are lovely, but [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is the stronger of the two.
Voted for [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], so sweet and timeless, and actually felt a little refreshing. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is a close second, love it! It’s definitely not hard at all, don’t be afraid to use it.
I love [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]! And while I also love [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] I wouldn’t want to change [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] :). My second favourite is [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] with the pronunciation [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-Ci-Uh
I don’t have anything against [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] or [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], they are both pretty. But I absolutely love [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (loo-see-a pronunciation) nn [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is my favorite followed by [name_f]Lucia[/name_f].
I know a little Lucia nn Lucy and a couple of girls named Lily. They are sweet but overused imo. Lydia is my favorite from your list. It is underused, refreshing and has a vintage feel. I think Lydie is cute. You could also use Lia as a nn and I love the suggestion of DeeDee.
Does anyone think the “[name_m]Ly[/name_m]” beginning feels '80s? Or that [name_f]Lydie[/name_f] feels ‘made up?’ We like classic names, and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] clearly is, but I really prefer the fresh feeling of [name_f]Lydie[/name_f].
I don’t think it feels made up. behindthename.com says that it’s actually the Czech form of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. Neither one feels dated to me.
Not sure I’ll be any help, because I’m equally torn between [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]! [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]'s probably my least favorite, as I am not keen on [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] at all, and really have never been, but I do love Cici! [name_f]Lily[/name_f]'s an important family name, so I do love that probably the most, although I do see your point. I love [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilian[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], AND [name_f]Lily[/name_f], but the one [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] I know goes exclusively by [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I feel like when I try to say [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] it feels like I’m just chopping off the “N”, but [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is super gorgeous and I love it a lot.
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] I love for both the tie to [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] ([name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_m]Bennet[/name_m] is a nightmare but I still love [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u], and the store of Pride and Prejudice in particular) and the fact that [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] was the first European [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. As a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] of primarily European descent, I find that appealing.
I’d probably rank them [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], and then [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], but I’d probably use [name_f]Dia[/name_f] over [name_f]Lydie[/name_f] (although I think Liddy/[name_f]Lydie[/name_f] is cute, too).
Good luck!
When it comes to [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], I don’t really see the point in the nicknames [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. Considering the nicknames are much more popular than the full names I think it might get confusing and you may as well just put [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] on the birth certificate you know? I think [name_f]Cece[/name_f] would work as a nickname for [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] though as they’re obviously different enough and [name_f]Cece[/name_f] is more commonly used as a nickname rather than a full name.
We have a [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] and a lot of people have asked if it’s short for [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], I think you have the potential to run into that with an [name_f]Lil[/name_f] name.
I think [name_f]Lydie[/name_f] is adorable!
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is nms.
I love the ‘L’ names too.
And I love [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], but it makes me wonder if I will be misheard as [name_f]Lydia[/name_f].
My fave of the nicknames are [name_f]Lily[/name_f] & [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].
Though I also love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] for its ‘classic’ quality, I’ve never been a big fan of Lid/Liddy as a nn – that being said, I would still use [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] in a heartbeat.
