I would pronounce it [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] with Loo-chee-a spelling, because [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-see-a is spelled Lucija here.
I prefer it loo-see-uh so that’s how I’d say it. I’ve only heard it loo-sha irl.
As a first name, I have heard Loo see ah and Loo chee ah used equally often. I have also heard Loo shah used as a surname.
I know it as [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-see-ah and [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-sha (like the country) .
I think the first pronunciation is gorgeous.
I think probably Loo see ah on first glance but I knew a [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] who pronounced it loo chee ah and thought that was so sweet! I think that’s my preferred pronunciation
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] loo-CHEE-ah. It makes my heart sing. I do happen to like LOO-shah a lot, too, and was my first love as far as [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] pronunciations, but these days I seem to default to the Italian pronunciation. If I realistically considered it, and actually used [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], I’d probably use LOO-shah; it seems to be the most common pronunciation here, and more attainable than my beloved loo-CHEE-ah. I think either would be perfect, though. I’m not a huge [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] fan, so I’m not terribly keen on Loo-SEE-ah, but the others I could get behind any day.
I don’t have an automatic go-to pronunciation with [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] and would always have to ask. I do like all the options though. If I was reading it and couldn’t ask then it would depend on the context which pronunciation I would opt for. In an Italian, or possibly European context generally, I would guess the 2nd one, and otherwise possibly the first one.
