Lucia?

What do people think about [name]Lucia[/name] nn [name]Lucy[/name]? I have an eastern-european last name and I like the idea that [name]Lucia[/name] seems to fit (pronouncing it [name]Lu[/name]-sha). And the nn [name]Lucy[/name] just feels so sweet for when she is growing up, but giving her the alternative for a more professional name when she wants it.

It doesn’t go with my typically uni-sex orientation for girls names but something about it I like. Thoughts?

I like this a lot – both [name]Lucia[/name] and the nn [name]Lucy[/name]. Also think it goes well with an Eastern European last name!

I think it’s fabulous. [name]Lucia[/name] is elegant and exotic and [name]Lucy[/name] is sweet and down-to-earth

Thanks to both of you!

Okay I just got more info on [name]Lucia[/name] and where it comes from.

[name]Lucia[/name] means light and was often given to babies born as dawn was breaking. I like this connotation around the “light of our lives”. Very sweet.

[name]Saint[/name] [name]Lucia[/name]/[name]Lucy[/name] the patron saint of the blind (DH’s brother is losing his vision to a degenertive disease and we support the foundation fighting blindness as our primary charity. I love this.)

[name]Lucia[/name] is one of the only saints recognized by the Lutheran church (I am Lutheran) and there is a festival celebrated for her in scandinavian countries (I am Swedish and Norwegian) on [name]December[/name] 13th (near her due date, the 21st).

I must say I am pretty inspired by all of this and feel like it might just all fit together very nicely.

Very pretty! I like the pronunciation you used too: [name]Lu[/name]-sha. I will say that when I first saw your post, I was thinking [name]Lu[/name]-cee-ya but [name]Lu[/name]-sha is gorgeous.

The only thing that is a drawback is the fact that people might pronounce it wrong. I am hoping because of the island [name]St[/name]. [name]Lucia[/name], that might helpam

Oh well, all of my other names have a drawback as well… This one is in good company! Lol

It’s gorgeous! Go for it! (so much nicer than the trend for unisex names in my opinion). My name is [name]Lucy[/name] and have never had any problems with it. I thought it was a little dull when I was a child but now I like having a classic name.

I really love [name]Lucia[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Erin[/name]!

Continued good wishes!

Thanks [name]Jill[/name] and everyone, I am kind of excited about it and DH likes it as well!

If she is born on [name]December[/name] 13th it will just have to be a done deal, but if its another day it will be one of the strong contendors for sure. Once we meet her we will have to decide if she’s a [name]Lucia[/name]/[name]Lucy[/name], [name]Alexandra[/name]/[name]Andie[/name], [name]Elliott[/name], or [name]Rosemarie[/name]/[name]Remi[/name]. All great choices I think!

Thanks all for your continued support in our search!
