My husband has fallen in love with the name [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (pronounced Loo-see-a). I have heard several different pronunciations for this name: Loo-cha, Loo-sha, Loo-chee-a. Loo-sha seems to be the most common. My first question is how would you pronounce [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. Which pronunciation do you prefer?
Secondly, what are some middle names you would pair with [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (we will probably pronounce it Loo-see-a, since that’s the pronunciation my husband likes best)? I tend to like shorter names (one or two syllables). Right now, I’m liking [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Klara[/name_f]/[name_f]Clara[/name_f], but I would love to hear other suggestions. We are expecting our daughter in late [name_f]September[/name_f].
My first thought was Loo-see-a, and I think it’s pretty! I think [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] would be very nice.
I love [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]! I pronounce it loo-see-uh. I love [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] but [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is pretty, too.
I personally pronounced this as [name_f]LU[/name_f]-see-ah when I first read it, emphasis on the first syllable. Otherwise (and I think this is more accurate) lu-SEE-ah. Either way, with a soft C, not a CH sound.
Because [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], especially pronounced with that soft C, is such a luminous name to me, I’d pair it with something that emphasises that celestial, dreamy vibe.
I’ve known one [name_f]LU[/name_f]-sha and one [name_f]Lu[/name_f]-SEE-ah with this name, yet I still mentally read it as [name_f]Lu[/name_f]-CHEE-ah (though I always ask before saying it out loud). [name_f]Lu[/name_f]-chee-ah is probably my preferred pronunciation, but I like [name_f]Lu[/name_f]-see-ah a lot as well.
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] are both pretty, but [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] would be my favorite!
Coming from an Italian background, I would pronounce it [name_f]Lu[/name_f] - [name_f]CHI[/name_f] - ah. The only other way I’ve heard it was the Spanish [name_f]Lu[/name_f]-THEE-ah.
I’d go with a one syllable middle name like [name_u]Rae[/name_u] or [name_m]Sol[/name_m] (pronounced like soul). Personally, I don’t like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] with [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. The sounds just aren’t right for me.
I like both lu-see-uh and lu-sha, but I instinctively pronounce it lu-see-uh. I love the name, and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is really pretty.
Thank you all for your feedback and suggestions—so helpful! We loved the suggestions of [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u]. We are still considering a few other names, so we’ll see… but I feel like we are much closer to choosing a name. Thanks, again.
I would pronounce [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] as loo-sha, but I’m familiar with the other pronunciations as well. I think [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] really works! [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] is also really pretty and much more distinctive; [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] is a fairly unusual name and especially as a middle.
