I’ve been posting alot this past week as I am really trying to be ruthless and cull my list to a max of five combos! I really am thankful to all berries who have been offering opinions…it is always very helpful. I’m once again appealing for help with a naming pickle!!..
I love the nn lulu for a little girl and have a disproportionate number of names on my list are ‘lu’ varients…you may have seen other posts about luna, lucy, lucia, lucina, luciana…
[name]Luna[/name] is my favourite of all these but i feel that even though I know it is a name with mythological weight and history and can stand alone that it may not be taken seriously in all contexts. [name]Even[/name] in these changing times Dr. [name]Luna[/name], [name]Judge[/name] [name]Luna[/name] or President [name]Luna[/name] would be a little strange wouldn’t it? I really want a name that is flexible for all occasions and so… i am thinking about [name]Luciana[/name] nn [name]Luna[/name]…lulu when she is little.
The thing is I’m not particularly fond of [name]Luciana[/name]!! [name]Lucia[/name] Yes…[name]Luciana[/name] not particularly. BUT it is certainly is flexible and adaptable and I love that she could then be luna but have a more substantial back up name…she could also go by lucy or lucia later in life if she chose fit.
Part of me though is wondering if i’m just having an issue with committing to one name? The likelyhood is that she will not avail of all the nn options and will just go by [name]Luna[/name]! Should I just then call her [name]Luna[/name]? (which sounds so amazing with ALL the middle names I love best [name]Luna[/name] [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Luna[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Luna[/name] [name]Marigold[/name]…
or do I chose a name that I like, but don’t love for the birth cert ([name]Luciana[/name] Peral is pretty I guess) so that she can use the more serious [name]Luciana[/name] id needs be… and than introduce her by spunky nn [name]Luna[/name]?
[name]Luna[/name] is a gorgeous name. If that’s the name you like, you should use it.
As for your concern, judges, presidents and doctors go by their surnames not first names. There are a lot of weird names among presidents by the way (does [name]Millard[/name] & [name]Jimmy[/name] sound very presidential to you?).
If I were you, I’d probably go with [name]Luciana[/name] nn [name]Luna[/name]. I think [name]Luna[/name] is great on its own, but I have some of the same worries about it. I would like that [name]Luciana[/name] has more flexibility. And [name]Luciana[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is really pretty.
But then I guess if she is going to be [name]Luciana[/name] but always called [name]Luna[/name], and you really love [name]Luna[/name], it probably makes sense to just use [name]Luna[/name].
In the end, I think either option is fine but you should just go with what makes you feel more comfortable.
Our last presidential candidates were [name]Mitt[/name] and [name]Barack[/name]. I think the days of [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]John[/name] are long gone, and soon a president [name]Luna[/name] won’t be surprising at all. [name]Jayden[/name] is in the top 10, and soon all those Jaydens will be doctors and lawyers and politicians. [name]Luna[/name] won’t seem strange.
In terms of the nickname thing, I’m a bit torn. I do think it’s usually a good thing to have a longer name with a nickname, but [name]Luna[/name] is a stand alone name and doesn’t naturally follow from [name]Luciana[/name] (I would expect [name]Lulu[/name], [name]Luci[/name], or [name]Ana[/name].) Plus, you don’t even like [name]Luciana[/name], which makes me a little more inclined to tell you just go with [name]Luna[/name]. I agree with lizabethm- either option is fine, go with what makes you more comfortable.
[name]Just[/name] name her [name]Luna[/name]… If you are going to call her that any way… [name]Luciana[/name] is ok but [name]Luna[/name] is way better
As given names in Spanish, they definitely have a very different feel to them - [name]Luciana[/name] is more traditional and more feminine and [name]Luna[/name] is cute and spunky and a bit new-agey to me, similar to little girls being named [name]Azul[/name] (blue) or [name]Brisa[/name] (breeze). If you aren’t sold on [name]Luciana[/name], there is also [name]Lucila[/name], although using [name]Luna[/name] as a nn might be more of a stretch. Oh, what about [name]Luana[/name]? That has both a spunky and a traditional feel to me.
I adore [name]Luna[/name] on its own, especially if you are planning on calling her [name]Luna[/name] the majority of the time and don’t love [name]Luciana[/name]! While I agree that it’s often nice to have a more “serious” full name so that your kid has more options, I also agree that times are changing and have no problem picturing Dr. [name]Luna[/name] or President [name]Luna[/name]. My daughter has a classmate named [name]Luna[/name], and it has grown on me. I think it definitely has the potential to age well, even if I haven’t met an adult [name]Luna[/name].
Pick the name you love. It sounds great with all of the middle names you listed!
I think [name]Luna[/name] is lovely! I would be more inclined to use just [name]Luna[/name] myself, as I’d want to avoid [name]Lucy[/name]. While [name]Luna[/name] is whimsical and I can see your concerns, I agree with the others that not all presidents have had “presidential” names, and she could rock it if she wanted to be president, or judge, or doctor. But frankly, I wouldn’t bat an eye at meeting a Dr. [name]Luna[/name] [name]George[/name] or whatever. It’s a lovely, respectable name.
Although I do really like the idea of [name]Luciana[/name] nn [name]Luna[/name]. But if you don’t like a full name, and [name]Luna[/name] is a legitimate name on its own, I wouldn’t use [name]Luciana[/name], personally.
