I discovered the name [name]Lucienne[/name] a few months ago and it is definitely growing on me. I love that she would probably not have another [name]Lucienne[/name] in her class, but yet she could go by [name]Lucy[/name] if she didn’t like having an uncommon name. I’ve also always had a love for the nickname [name]Lulu[/name], so that’s a definite plus. What are everyone’s thoughts on the name? Also, how do you say it? I’m not quite sure where to put the emphasis, so I just want to hear from others! Thanks
I personally love it. I pronounce it loo-see-enn, with the stress on the last syllable.
loo-see-EHN
I love this name! It used to be my favorite, with the nickname [name]LuLu[/name].
Thank you!
Also wondering how to spell [name]Lucy[/name]? Or should I use [name]Luci[/name]? It wouldn’t be a nickname used all of the time, if that makes a difference.
Although this is a feminine spelling, I automatically think of “[name]Lucian[/name]” and a male when I see this name. But I know 2 males Lucians (go by [name]Luke[/name]) so not sure if that is swaying how I think of the name.
I pronounce it like the pps do; I personally like [name]Lucy[/name] (with that spelling) more than [name]Lucienne[/name], but it’s still very pretty.
Pretty much [name]Lucy[/name]-N with a little bit of accent in there. I adore it, I think it sounds so romantic, feminine and sophisticated. Great choice!
I love this name. It’s different, yet will still fit in with popular names. I’d pronounce it Loo-see-ehn.
I would abbreviate it [name]Lucie[/name]. As with many French words, gendering it masculine/feminine depends on how much emphasis you place on the final sound-- so that NNN is really strong, whereas with [name]Lucien[/name] it’s just a hint of nasality.
For optimal flow, try to avoid placing two stressed syllables next to each other. Since [name]Lucienne[/name] is stressed on the very last syllable, it will sound best with a middle name whose emphasis is anywhere except the first. [name]Say[/name] aloud to see what I mean: [name]Lucienne[/name] [name]Elise[/name] (works) versus [name]Lucienne[/name] [name]Carys[/name] (doesn’t work). Some examples:
[name]Cecile[/name]
[name]Colette[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Corinne[/name]
[name]Simone[/name]
[name]Marin[/name]
[name]Lucienne[/name] is gorgeous! I really like it with the pronunciation of Loo-see-enne (accent on last syllable). I slightly prefer the nn [name]Lulu[/name] to [name]Lucy[/name], but I think both are adorable!
Thank you everyone! I really appreciate the feedback. Now to try to figure out a middle name I like for it.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Lucienne[/name], and would pronounce it as others mentioned above. Oh yes, I do love this name, too. Where did you first hear of it?
My favorite combination in the entire world is [name]Lucienne[/name] [name]Pearl[/name].
I love the name [name]Pearl[/name], but I already have it in another combo that I love. Although [name]Lucienne[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is really beautiful.
[name]Blade[/name]: [name]Just[/name] had to comment that your advice on flow and syllables is always right on. I love how you makes sense of what to most are just vague feelings about a name. Would love to get your take on our names sometime (we’re down to 3)!
[name]Love[/name] [name]Lucienne[/name]! Would use [name]Lucie[/name] as a NN.
Ditto! I prefer [name]Lucy[/name] though.
Very sweet of you to say-- and always happy to help.
