So over the last few months I’ve narrowed my list of 30 names down to 2 favorites. Although I’m keeping the list close in hand because you never know- [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] ([name_f]Ruthie[/name_f]) and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. I love more of the meaning of [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and that it’s way less popular- but [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is the name that makes me heart pitter patter- even though I feel like it’s a little overused for what I usually like.
The problem? I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] names. I like [name_f]Greta[/name_f]'s named [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_m]Liam[/name_m]'s named [name_m]William[/name_m]. And I absolutely love [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]- I think it is SO ready for a comeback and would set my little [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] apart.
The problem? Last name is [name_u]BELL[/name_u]!
I think I’ve posted about this before a few months ago but this was when it was not as strong of a contender as it is now. The good news is- who doesn’t love [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] Ball? The bad news is- they’re one letter apart.
If it helps to know- I’m a single 27 year old woman adopting and so very well may not be “[name_u]Bell[/name_u]” for long if I end up marrying at some point.
Thoughts?
When I read the title my first thought was [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] Ball. [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] sounds very close. I personally would choose something else.
[name_f]Lucette[/name_f] instead? [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Luciana[/name_f], [name_f]Lux[/name_f], [name_f]Lucienne[/name_f]? [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] is a bit much I think.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] as well and like you have some concerns with using it. It sounds silly with our L-heavy last name. Although [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] is a cute name, it is undeniably close to [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] Ball. Although in another ten years who knows how well-know [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] Ball will be? Pop culture references tend to fade in time. Another point to think of is that kids get named despite celebrities all the time. I am sure there have been many [name_m]Will[/name_m] Smiths born in the last few decades. I think it’s up to your own comfort level. Although I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], I can’t get over how it sounds with my last name. Other people disagree with me. It’s all personal preference. One thing I wouldn’t count on is eventually changing your last name. For one you may never get married or decide not to change your name when you do. Further, when you do get married, your daughter may be old enough that she does not want to change her name or feel that her stepfather is “her father” enough to do so.
I think it’s a cute name, and yes it will make people think of [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] Ball, but that’s not a terrible thing is it? I think if you love the name (and the reference isn’t going to bother you too much) you should go for it.
Great feedback! Thank you guys! Soaking it all in. It’s so tough- because you want to choose the name you [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]- but this of course is the ONE name with the most “issueS” and it’s the name I love! [name_m]Oy[/name_m]!
I feel you [name_f]Jesslyn[/name_f]! Sounds like similar predicaments!
