I’m really starting to like both of these names because of their history and strong sounds. However I’m hesitant to consider [name]Linus[/name] because of the Peanuts association and [name]Lucius[/name] because of its closeness to the name [name]Lucifer[/name].
But could I just be worrying too much? What do you guys think of these names?
Not to bust your bubble, but when I saw [name]Linus[/name] I immediately thought of the Peanuts & when I saw [name]Lucius[/name] I thought it said [name]Lucifer[/name]. Sorry, maybe its just me.
I love [name]Linus[/name]! I started using it once in a novel I was attempting to write (which I quickly gave up on, but I still love [name]Linus[/name]!). It is so quirky and fun and I love the history attached to it (a form of it, [name]Linux[/name], was used all the way back in [name]Rome[/name] around the time [name]Jesus[/name] was crucified!). I would love to meet a [name]Linus[/name]. I was never much into Peanuts, so for the longest time I thought [name]Linus[/name] was the one who played the piano, which was a pretty awesome connection, imo, but alas, I’ve found out he’s the one with the blanket instead. Nothing wrong with that. [name]Baby[/name] blankets are pretty awesome. I still have mine, haha.
[name]Lucius[/name] does have a bit of a sinister/evil feel to me–probably a combination of the closeness to [name]Lucifer[/name] (although it is the only [name]Luc[/name]- name that has that sinister feeling to me) plus the connection to [name]Lucius[/name] Malfoy. Granted, I know nothing about HP, I have no desire to know anything about HP, I’m happy to be oblivious to it, but years ago when it was mentioned somewhere, I thought I’d heard he was one of the bad guys in the series, which has helped to perpetrate the idea that [name]Lucius[/name] = evil. I personally adore the similar [name]Lucian[/name], but [name]Lucius[/name] does nothing for me. Nothing good, anyway. I actually get a little bit of the creapy-crawlies when I hear it/see it. I adore [name]Lucian[/name], though, I think that’s fab.
I actually like them both quite a bit. I personally don’t see [name]Lucifer[/name] when I look at [name]Lucius[/name], but rather I think of [name]Lucius[/name] Malfoy. I am a [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] fan, though. [name]Lucien[/name]/[name]Lucian[/name], which I absolutely love, could be an excellent alternative to [name]Lucius[/name] if you are worried about the closeness to [name]Lucifer[/name].
I’ve heard it generalized that [name]Lucian[/name] is LOO-shuhn while [name]Lucien[/name] is loo-see-ehn. Although, if I’m remembering correctly from my French days, [name]Lucien[/name] would be more like loo-see-ah(n) with the “N” barely pronounced, not really pronounced at all.
“[name]Linus[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name]” is the name of the classic Peanuts song (from the [name]Charlie[/name] [name]Brown[/name] [name]Christmas[/name] episode) - so the combination of [name]Linus[/name] and [name]Lucius[/name] just seems cartoony to me, sadly!
I’m not huge on [name]Linus[/name] but love [name]Lucius[/name]!!!
(Disclaimer: I also love the sound of [name]Lucifer[/name] so [name]Lucius[/name] feels like the very acceptable cousin name).
I like both names but [name]Lucien[/name] was dropped from our list because my US husband says ‘Loo-shush’ and his British wife says 'Loo-shenthough your spelling totally solves that problem. I don’t see Peanuts as a problem, there are plenty of [name]Charlie[/name]‘s out there!’
In theory I like the name [name]Linus[/name] a lot, but the association to the Peanuts character is really really strong, and not likely to fade away anytime too soon, since it’s the kind of thing that’s been around for a really long time and isn’t likely to disappear anytime soon. But despite that, I would be quite overjoyed if I ever actually met someone named [name]Linus[/name].
I love the name [name]Lucius[/name] in theory and in practice. It’d be high on our own possibility list if it didn’t sound really similar to my sister-in-laws name already (she’s Chinese, her Chinese name is [name]Lu[/name]-shan). [name]Lucius[/name] doesn’t make me think of [name]Lucifer[/name] at all (in fact, I think even a common female name like [name]Jennifer[/name] sounds more similar to [name]Lucifer[/name] than [name]Lucius[/name] does). As has been suggested, [name]Lucian[/name]/[name]Lucien[/name]/[name]Luciano[/name] are all great options as well, though I think I prefer [name]Lucius[/name] of the bunch (though they’re all great).
